phenom 2's

£215 for the 940 is the suggested price from a review that seems to have accidentally posted up for public viewing for a few minutes before being taken down.

The general gist was, much cheaper system price than an i7, not as good performance, identical gaming FPS as the i7 and kentsfields, faster than a Q9300 and Q8200(they were showing the budget quad costs as they'll be closest to the 920 price). It beat those quads everywhere basically, not by huge amounts. It was a fair way behind the i7 in certain things, less far behind in others, either way you can have a decent setup for £200 (maybe more) less than an i7.

The conclusion was gone by the time i got there so not sure what their opinion was, but at £215 , for a gaming setup with a cheap SB750 board and 4gb far cheaper ddr2 you can't go wrong.

Higher power than a lower end Q series with less cache which probably sucks a fair whack under load and lower power, by 50W(probably 35-40W due to i7 having 2gigs extra ddr3) than the i7 system under load , lower at idle though closer IIRC.

Either way it said £215 for the 940, and i forgot the 920, but maybe £185/190 i think.

Oh, they also got to 3.6Ghz stable with a small voltage bump, 3.7Ghz with another bump pretty easily, no mention of increasing mem controller speed which said it was 1.8Ghz over 2Ghz on a 9950, considering you can get 10% performance going from 1.8Ghz to 2.2/2.4Ghz on the 9950 I would think thats another pocket of performance to be unlocked that most reviews won't show when they are up. Plus they've always been a little, low end, when it comes to showing stable overclocks so chances are 4Ghz won't be asking much plus higher mem controller and we're on to a freaking great system.

I think if AMD can manage to sell the Phenom II 940 for £215 I'd be very tempted.
I am however thinking upgrading my graphics card and waiting until Intel have their first revision of the i7, and making my decision then would be a better idea.
Unfortunately I don't know when that will be, and the current i7 (cost aside) runs a bit on the hot side for my liking.

hmm, lots of stuff on XS, a lot of the major benchers have their hands on chips and have released some/lots of results, air cooling 4Ghz, ln2 and 5.6Ghz straight off 3d benching(nehalem afaik is only doing a hair over 5Ghz 3d benching). Would be nice to see some water results but the opinion is its tending to scale well with voltage and temp drops of any kind so water should do pretty decently. Pretty good early numbers, and apparently much better overclocking northbridges, 3.4Ghz hit with ln2 is just ludicrously higher than before and gives a very good performance boost, it looks like they hit over 100k with 3dmark 03, I'm not really into it at all but pretty sure thats a great number.

I think suggested price might take a backseat to early buyers gouging prices, though hopefully somewhere will have it cheap.

Thinking a 940, dfi board, 2x640gb spinpoints in raid(unless 2x new 500gb platter seagates are doing something special, and soon :p ), 4 gigs of not great ddr2 will clock very well, be very very fast and if it can get to 4Ghz easily enough on air or water will do me for a good while.

I#m trying to hold off a new system purchase to see what figures these come out with ... Can only last anoher 2 weeks or so, hopefully by which time most places will have these listed so long as some start appearing tomorow.

Any knowledge if OcUK are planning on listing tomorow (technically today but not slept yet :D) ...

Annoying how it's the only day this week im away from home. Sodding Autosport show  :D ...

Well ... There's the 790FX and 790GX, which has been produced with the Phenoms II in mind. They are also compatible with older kit, unlike the the x58, so that's a bonus.

FX has been said to overclock well and has really good thermal properties IIRC.

Out of stock already? ^^;

No the launch was pulled forward 2 hours and they are at our back door waiting to be put onto the system.

Someone is running down to get them on the system now. Have stock at the back door with more due before 12:00. :p

Bit last minute, but they are out earlier!
