Currently I have a Core 2 [email protected] gig. Is it worth going the Phenom route? the black edition chip looks good. How much quicker than my current cpu would the Phenom quad be?

I know I'll have to change the motherboard.

Ok, thanks for your help mate. I was given an Abit AN52V gratis and thought I try a change.

Phenom II should be out fairly soon, might be good to wait and see what they are like. Might push down the price of the current phenoms even if the new ones are out of your price range.

core 2s are far better than quads for games, crysis can only utilise 2 cores mate,

and whith a phenom you would need a new mobo to match the socket,

why not just get a wolfdale chip..E8400.? and that could clock up to around 3.8-4.0GHz

wich will blow ALL games out the water. :p

The AN52V will run a Phenom. I don't have any v core options on the P5N-MX so my chip is running stock voltage on a 1 gig (or near as dammit) overclock.

If your looking for an upgrade you might aswell stick to intel quads. After all, changing to phenom will involve a new mobo, HSF and processor. Also theres no guarentee that AMD wont change their socket after Phenom II quads.
