Philips to launch BDM4065UC 40" UHD 4k Monitor

This is really interesting. I've been holding out for one of the new 34" ultrawides. But this changes the game a bit as it's the same ppi as the the current gen 27" WQHD and the ultrawides meaning no faffing about with scaling.

For reference I crunched a few numbers for anyone considering the upgrade from a 27"

So at 109 ppi we have:

27" WQHD 1440x2560 = 3,686,400 px
34" Ultrawide 1440x3440 = 4,953,600 px - 34% more screen real estate than 27"
40" 4K 2160x3840 = 8,294,400 px - 125% more screen real estate than 27", or 67% more than 34" ultrawide.

I am really interested in this and also Seiki are about to release a 60Hz refresh rate at 4K soon, an update to their previous 39". There is also a Bush 4K TV that seems interesting but not sure if its possible to use it as a 4K monitor because of what refresh rates you get at 4k.

two of these tv would be great, glad I did not jump on the dell 32" 4k tv ripoff. Monitor prices are have been elevated for so long and glad they are coming down finally.

please be good,please be good,please be good,please be good,please be good,please be good,please be good,please be good,please be good.......

I don't even care if the input lag/pixel response is average, mainly want it for TV & movie watching

It could make a very nice monitor but i stand by my statement, the only way i see it being usable is stuck to the wall behind your desk so you have enough distance to see it without having to move your head left and right.

PC gaming is changing. People are doing exactly that, putting screens on walls or stands then couch/chair gaming on them but still keeping the smaller monitor closer for surfing

I hope there is 48" - 50" 120hz 4k fast response/low lag Monitors at some point with DP1.3 + a few HDMi 2.0's

I've been using 3 x 27" monitors at one of my workstations for the last year or so.

One mounted to the wall behind the desk and the other two at an angle either side just sitting on the desk.

It's incredible for productivity being able to have 6 full screen apps open and quickly snap them to half a monitor using Win+Arrow Key.

I wonder if they'll consider doing a curved version of this 40" monster....

I think that's when this kind of size of monitor will really become competitive. But then if you only use one monitor you lose the benefits of being able to have "full screen" apps open while having other apps open in the other monitors.

any more news on this baby? ... was almost set on the lg 34" monitor then heard about this - like to hear about some tests comparing input lag and picture quality.

I watch a lot of TV on my computer so this would be nice to have - but enjoy games too.

Only issue I can see is

has a promised DeltaE of <3 in its sRGB preset

<1 is what colour accurate work strives for, if it's 2 for example then that's not really useful for colour critical work. The average IPS display is usually around 0.5 for comparison post calibration and 1-2 out of the box.

Also VA panels and input lag for gaming, are they now on par with IPS or are they still slightly slower?
