Currently, there is a lot of discussion about what the ideal size is for a mobile phone screen.

Many adopters of the Samsung Galaxy Note have said they will never go back to a phone with a smaller screen, and Google have opted to go with a large screen on the Galaxy Nexus. Apple at the moment have stuck with the smaller 3.5" display, and many people claim to be happy with that, though generally people may want a small size increase.

What do you think is the ideal screen size?

Obviously it's going to be different for everyone depending on your uses, but what size would you be most comfortable with, and what do you find the easiest to handle?

I don't personally have an issue using any of the current devices, but I feel the Note is over the top and the Nexus is right on the limit of what is acceptable for a phone.

I think the next iPhone will have a 4" screen as I don't think Apple will want to risk anything bigger than that for a single, universal product and I think Samsung may go with a 4.5" screen on the S3, especially if they can keep the dimensions close to those of the Galaxy S2.

I've seen some people call the Galaxy S2 a 'huge slab' but I completely disagree with that!

I went for another 3.7" phone this time round in the Nokia 800. I was thinking about getting something bigger but was afraid of damage in pocket. Since, I've dug out a couple of classic handsets and my god they are huge, I can't remember ever carrying them around. So next time I think I will go for something bigger like the Galaxy Nexus.

The S2 I find less hefty than my old Nokia N86 despite the screen size. I have to say, it's big enough though I certainly wouldn't fancy something the size of the note. If it were a few mm thicker to allow for a better battery, that'd be my optimal size.

Depends how thick the bezel is. Probably no more than 15 cm for the whole phone.

Fyi you cannot make an actual size reference picture as you have no idea what dpi people are using for their display.

iPhone just needs a better screen to bezel ratio! Compare the Nokia to the iPhone. More or less the same physical size but the screen is much larger on the Nokia. Although Win7mobile is gash!

Its weird, they only feel big for a day or so! I have an S2 and would get the same size or bigger again, not smaller though! The Note.... not so sure, I'd be ripped up at the work place lol. :p

I never said I'd go bigger than 4''. Then I bought an SGS2. Then I said I wouldn't touch anything larger than 4.3''... but I bought a GNex. I find these big phones a bit of a pain to use one-handed, but the screen size has its advantages.

Overall though, I don't think I'd go bigger than the GNex.

7 inches. A 3g tablet. Bluetooth for calls and music. Best of both worlds since i barely use 200 minutes a month, the majority of use is texts or for multimedia/web browsing.

Depends how big the bezel is, and also what os it's running. if using it in one hand the top left corner is usually the hardest to reach. so on say ios which generally has buttons in that corner a big screen would be a pain, but on wp7 which generally keeps the buttons lower down the screen it doesn't really matter. I'd probably opt for 4.3 as the optimum size, especially now there's some very nice 1280x720 panels in that size.

As I think you've gathered Robbo, I'd have a very hard time going back to a smaller than 5.3" phone now :)

I'm sure I could probably drop down to 4.7" or something and get used to it, but it would have to be a really special phone for me to want to do that. I doubt I would go lower than that though.

Maybe we can turn this into a poll. It's not really the screen size that bothers me but the overall dimensions of the phone. The Note is huge but it's also very flat, I can't believe how thin it is. I think that something along the dimensions of the SII is the sweet spot for someone like me. I don't use phones for watching media but it's nice being able to look at things without having to squint.

What do you think would make good poll options?
