Once the device is no longer portable ie. doesn't fit in my trouser pocket easily, then it is too big for me and I would not buy it as a phone. If I spend my money on something, in all honesty I couldn't care less what other people think of it as long as it does everything I want.

I went from an iP4 > S2 > Note. I don't think I've ever been as impressed with anything I've purchased over the past few years as much as the Note. I'm now looking forward to seeing what the S3 brings to the table... not so I can purchase it, but to give me some idea what we can expect from my next phone, the Note 2. :)

I'm going to say the 4.6"-ish nexus size. Anything around that mark. I don't mind a little lower/higher, I'm more interested in thickness and battery capability.

For something I wanted to use as a "phone" I would say no bigger than the S2/Nexus. But I'll be honest and say that I hardly ever actually call anyone at the moment (at least not for extended periods of time), a few calls a week maybe. I'm more of an app, browse, text, video skype/gtalk, tinker person at the moment. So the note would actually fit my current needs pretty well.

However, as device that I have to lug around with me.. I'd MUCH prefer something smaller, probably actually like the S2 or smaller. I say this because if I was gonna start taking this device everywhere, and playing with my kid, walking the dogs etc... I'm likely going to leave the damn huge thing at home, which totally defeats the purpose of having a mobile. Summer time... what person wants to lug a big chunky device around when you are not wearing a jacket?

The Note is just ridiculous. I can see I wouldn't find that comfortable at all.

I think i'd struggle with anything bigger than the SGS2. I've not held a Galaxy Nexus mind.

Happy galaxy note owner here. It's at about the limit for a pocketable device. Fits in trouser pockets okay without issue. Usable one handed but not particularly easily, but then using it two-handed is quicker than texting on another phone one-handed so I don't care about that anyhow. And using it for browsing the net or watching a film is just much quicker and more comfortable than when using a friends iphone 4s.

I wouldn't want to get a phone with less than a 4.5" screen again as smartphones are at the stage where they can do a good job of browsing the net easily with multiple tabs like I would on a desktop pc, and using a 3.5" screen ruins that.

Galaxy Note is the biggest I'd go - it takes a little adjusting to but its not that much of a problem and I'd definitely hate to go for anything less again.

For browsing a screen size bigger than 4.5" would definately be beneficial there is no doubt about that. Having a slightly more square device helps as well, so you can turn it sideways and not lose quite so much of the height of the page.

I do think that we will soon be having a load of other 'mini' devices that are connected to the 'main' phone out pocket though. More of an expansion on the headset rather than a plain old mic/earpiece as the popularity and acceptance of big phones marches on.

I do have to say though, that I actually miss the days of my ericcson T28s, when you barely knew you had the phone on you it was that slim and light.

Ah, that was my first phone. :-) quite a bit thicker than the note though. Beautifully designed little phone.

Most people will just vote for the phone they own or the one they want. I know a few people who thought the Note was 'way too big' before they had ever used one, but they now have one.
