PHP Web Developer

Uh I think you guys misread my post (or I mis-wrote it). I earn somewhere between 20k and 25k (so my post was trying to say the 16k doomongers are a bit off) but I reckon much of that is simply down to the fact I work in London for a corporation doing very bland government/corporate work, rather than for a small independent firm doing more creative stuff.

Oh I see :) Although my OH was a graduate with a years experience in IT with an MCP/MCSE and experience of java, and he started on 16k though it is rising pretty quickly. I guess it just depends on company/location/individual.

TBH its pure luck. I graduated from uni and after about god knows how many applications I got an interview on a grad scheme. I worked in a completely different area (3rd Line SAN Support and Backups) for about half a year when our company lost the contract for the work to a competitor and because it would be cheaper to keep me than hire an external candidate or lose me to the competitor, they put me into a gap on a Web Dev team as the contractor was leaving (I do have PHP experience, but enthusiast rather than work based).

And really, us grads are payed a fair wedge less than the other members of staff. I do moan about the stress and 'low' pay quite a bit, but then I think how lucky I am when other people I know, with much better qualifications with me are still looking for work. As much as I'd like to take credit for where I am, its just luck!
