Physical reaction when playing 'creepy' games?

First time I played fear I was sat at home on my own curtains closed with the surround sound wacked up. Damn that was a jump fest wandering through the sewers made me scream like a 5 year old girl

If you like older games, two good games to play in the dark with the lights off are the Thief series and System Shock 2.

Thief (original) and SS2 were the two games that convinced me I was "immune" to scary games.

I still loved SS2 though - definitely one of my favourite games of all time.

The voice acting in SS2 added so much to the experience. Some of the best I've ever heard. :)

Obviously not what you meant, but I couldn't resist :p

And yeah, the quality of the voice acting was top notch. I loved discovering the backstory entirely through dropped logs... That game had buckets of atmosphere.

The one thing I hate is in films not games and that is when someone is underwater and they're being strangled or are coming up for air, I feel like I'm panicking for them :D

know the feeling well, found I used to get it a lot whilst playing Doom 3, also get it frequently with Alan Wake (when you just know! that they are behind you and it BAM! there they are!) and Resistance II on the PS3 with those awful, creepy tall dudes with the long skinny arms that just ran at you trying to bludgeon you to death, creepy buggers! :D

FPS + underwater combat = weird nerves for me.

Octabrains used to scare the crap out of me in Duke Nukem 3D.

Exactly the same. Infact that must be where my hatred of water in games comes from now you mention it!

In any game I dread water levels/areas. Half Life and Black Mesa gave me the fear when I had to go in water even though there was most likely nothing in the water to hurt me.

Metro 2033, creeping through some abandoned buildings, get to a large outdoor area in the moonlight and you heard the howling of dogs and the sound of fast movement, properly made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Reminds me, I need to finish this game!!

Do it !!!

Its fantastic :)

Slender followed my inner child in to a forest corner with an almost discharged torch and made him collect creepy notes :(

I don't really get this, which is a shame. Same story with scary movies. I blame it on having an older brother who let me watch Alien when I was 7 - took about a week to recover and have never really been scared much of anything since :p

First time on Alan Wake I was terrified, 2nd time through still some jumps. Amnesia is the only game I've played once then been too scared to play ever again, the first time I saw something evil in the dark in the distance I literally covered myself in beer

I get this all the time, mainly when Im being chased and I know there is something running after me, I wait for the best time to turn around and confront it. Theres been loads of times when Ive turned expecting the thing (normally a monster of some kind) to be further away than it is, but its not and its right behind me in my face. Poo pants moment.

A game that springs to mind for me, is the Marine chaper of Aliens vs Predator. I found the original Alien movies very scary so playing the game being chased by one scared the life out of me. Its the 'blips' noise on your characters radar like in Aliens. You can hear the blips getting closer but you cant see the Alien.

>Shudders.

Not so much creepy, but I get a physical reaction sometime playing multiplayer games, especially Counter Strike or Left 4 Dead, when I know Im the last surviving terrorist with the bomb, it all hangs on me, my heart starts pounding and I seem to get closer to the screen lol. As for L4D, its when you have a perfect moment to win the match and it hangs on you not to mess it up. Like chasing the last standing survivor as he tries to make it to the safe room or to help a team mate up. Timing it crucial and if you are a boomer, staying out of harms way as only a couple shots blows you up.
