physics cards a joke

To be fair, when the GPU is out of the picture, he's getting 46% higher framerates (640 x 480).

Agreed it's pointless as most people are gonna play @ 1280+

:(

Ever since the Novodex rocket demo, I've been excited about PC Physics. HL2 was superb and I'm hoping something really cool comes along. Maybe GPU-physics has the answer?

i really liek the idea of having extreme physics in a game, but those daft black squares that shoot out form everywhere look crap ! ive only they were rendered as £d chunks of wall or something, not just generic 'debris'

i think its really sad how a £350 graphics card / £700 SLI / cfire setup isnt enough anymore

I've seen a few extremely impressive demos of SLi running physics/graphics from nVidia, had an amazing number of objects onscreen, all interacting. Of course cellfactor looked pretty sweet in the tech demos too... :D

I saw a video for Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway on the official site which had some very impressive physics effects, which i assume were generated by a physx card. If not then who needs one lol. I reckon physx was just rushed out and is currently suffering from chronically bad implementation.

this card is lame. i was expecting it to give a serious bump in cpu assistance so a p3 1ghz performs like a fx57. but nop the card is way too crap.

would not even bother wasting time speaking its name.

please, a physX card is not designed to take the load of the cpu but to generate realistic/semi realistic eye candy effects and nothing else.
What you have been expecting is not what it was designed to do in the first place.

hmm, well from what i have seen it do so far is worse than any possible upgrade.
this card is more of a downgrade than an upgrade.

it adds no real physics to a game and it take a serious hit in framerate when attempting to do anything.
can;t see the logic in this card.

unreal tournament 2007 will decide the fate of this card. if it does the same thing it does in cell factor and GRAW that is take a serious hit in framerate and hardly add anything extra then ageia will go bankrupt regardless of whatever they do.

ut2k7 WILL be the deciding factor. cellfactor was supposed to be coded from the ground up to make use of the PPU but it fails miserably. doubt that ut2k7 will be any different since i suspect it to take a serious hit in framerate too when the ppu is utilised.

you all have been warned. a lot of "i told you so" will be used in the comming months.

it doesn't take nostra damus to predict that this card is crap. :p

i think the idea of a physics processor is a great idea, but personally I'm waiting to see what nvidia and havok's on card solution is like.

ummm anyone see the news at guru ... can run cell factor without the card and still get full physics .. oops .. lol ... now thats a boo boo and a half .. ops me too same story diff site .. darn i need read all the lines not between them

waste of money“

The PPU has extra effects and higher FPS so why is it a waste of money?

You don’t get full physics you get quite a bit missing and less FPS without a PPU.

Show us proof then? Cos my £200 is staying firmly in my bank.

Watch the cellfactor movie with the PPU right near the start the ship fly’s though the waving flag and tears it to shreds. Now run the game without the PPU and there isn’t even a flag let alone tearing cloth. Letter on there is liquid blood flown over and down walls and other liquids all of which you don’t get without the PPU. There are other good shots of realistic moving cloth in the movie.

That should be enough proof that without the PPU you do not get all the effects. I don’t think any of the bencmarks show Cellfactor to be faster without the PPU. So the PPU is faster FPS with more effects over not having a PPU.

EDIT: If I am wrong please show me how you got the cloth and liquids to work without the PPU.

Edit: Yea, I haven't seen any proof from anyone with the card is runs at more than 20FPS, show me this?
