PhysX NextCarGame

Don't know why everyone is getting so angry in this thread.

The game doesn't use PhysX.
It's highly unlikely that the physics simulation for this game is calculated by the CPU.

The mesh deformation when the car was getting crushed was really nice; in my opinion I'd have preferred they spent more time showcasing that rather than the knocking over a bunch of objects we've seen in a million different engines.

I'd lol if it was using Bullet.

As far as I'm aware, GPU accelerated physics is required due for dynamic physics, you know, the kind that can be interacted with (Walking through fog, it reacting the correct way to the stimuli, not a pre defined (static) way)

I'm interested to know what physics it is using.

Steams just started firing down a 1.1GB update for this, will report back with any noteworthy changes :)

Edit, found a changelog:

CHANGELOG 2014-01-15
15 JANUARY - JANNESBB
We've only been on Steam for a couple of hours, but the first update is already up! In case the updating process doesn't start automatically, please log out of Steam and back in. The most important changes:

- Implemented iterative engine component damage + related HUD visuals.
- Fixed damage direction deduction so that damage is allocated correctly.
- Fixed position counter so that the player cannot be further back than the last.
- Changed the position counter to always show the number of cars that started.
- Removed player kill areas from environments.
- Reduced arm-co friction and wooden fence mass.
- Implemented environment geometry fixes and polishing.
- Implemented lighting tweaks, and added lens flares.
- Implemented constant vertical FOV to support widescreen resolutions.
- Fixed user interface bugs and added general polish.
- Fixed a couple of minor audio issues.
- Improved general build stability.

Edit 2: Some nice improvements especially on the damage side of things, only new game modes are practise and some 1v1 races, no online yet sadly though its still in pre-alpha :)

This discussion is so old. PhysX is garbage. Sure the tech demos are cool and the feature set is pretty good but the reason for why its garbage it can only be used for fluff and eye candy which is a waste of its true potential IMHO. This is what you get when you lock something down that should be open(im refering to the driver lockout, not hardware). Physics should be used as a gameplay mechanic next to also deliver extra eye candy and that aint gonna happen on the level we want/desire simply because it would be stupid for a developer to say no to 30-40% of potential sales by developing an nvidia only title. PhysX is not there to innovate Gaming, its there to sell GPUs. Its a marketing stunt, a very expensive marketing stunt i would imagen but it seems to work perfectly by the looks of it.

Brand loyalty s*ck. You owe them nothing, you already gave them your money.

EDIT: The game looks pretty cool though :)

How do i get this update? loading the game doesn't seem to do it.

It just started auto updating when I opened steam! Try either logging out and back in again or verify the game cache/integrity within steam, this should force steam to compare game files to the current latest release and update where necessary :)
