[PIC_THREAD] Landscapes, Architecture, Seascapes

mt McLoughlin early morning across Klamath lake. Straight from camera (olympus e-pm2 with 40-150mm).
Perfect clear skies meant little magic in the magic hour.

The day before I skied down the line slightly below the left (southern) ridge.

Lovely picture bud

Here's a few I took earlier today on a little excursion through the Trossachs

CC is always appreciated - thanks :)

Familiar scenery, I sued to live in Dunblane and would visit the Trossachs a lot. Here is some brief CC:

Something is wrong with your White Balance, they are very orange or purple, not just a hint but way out of whack on my monitor (for reference the photos I posted above a too cool due to high altitude and strong UV and the fact they are straight out of camera). If you are editing the WB in post be very careful that your monitor is calibrated, if it isn't then I would trust what the camera has done in most regular outdoor situations.

They seem very soft, e.g. the hotel (forget its name) misses critical sharpness for me. Make sure your shutter speed is fast enough.

Subject, I am kind of missing the key elements and compositional story behind the photos.

The border is really not attractive at all. In general for digital display you don't need a border, when printed a plain white border made form high quality card can be very nice, depending on the frame.

Couple from the weekend

Where exactly did you spend this weekend? :p

Thank you so much for the cc - it's really appreciated.

I'm using a Samsung WB101 Bridge Camera which unfortunately doesn't allow me to adjust the shutter speed - I know I'll make sure this feature is available on my next camera purchase. However this particular camera (along with a few knowledgeable friends) has already taught me quite a lot about photography :)

I'm thinking the white balance issue is down to my monitor, and like you say I think in future I'll trust what my camera has done as opposed to mucking around with the processing using Lightroom like I've previously done. I agree the hotel (The Stagecoach) does appear to lack sharpness which is something I am disappointed with, however given I took the picture from around three miles away I'm quite happy with the zoom / quality sacrifice. I'll also drop the border - initially I wasn't too sure whether to include it or not? It's something I wasn't entirely happy with and looking at the many other fantastic pictures in this thread alone proves a border isn't necessarily required.

On a side note, Dunblane is a lovely town. My OH graduated from Stirling University and her Grad Ball was held in the winter of 2010 at Dunblane Hydro - and yes we got snowed in. Big Time :p

A few taken yesterday in Oxshott woods, stunning place. It's pretty mad how close it is to London, think I'll be there very regularly now...

All taken with Film, no digital, not any editing/cropping either etc.

The rest of the hit & miss set is here:

Same place I think. I was there at low tide, so all the 'eggs' were behind me. Made for an interesting scramble back in failing light with all the kit!
