Pick up my GT86 tommorow

Isn't the Toyota supposed to be more of a "raw" drive? Less driver aids, more feel, rather than the subaru/mitsubishi way of electronic stability and insane levels of mechanical grip.

The cars are mechanically identical apart from spring rates being slightly different.

The choice between the two is based on looks, what deal you can get, and any other additional things like the warranty mentioned above. Underneath they are the same car.

what would the reasons be for picking the Toyota over the Subaru or vice versa?

There was couple of reasons
I would get a better price for my IQ
Stock
order times for Suburu I have seen on forums long delivery times
5 year warranty
The service and aftercare from Toyota is excellent.
Nearest suburu dealer is 15 miles away the Toyota dealer is 3 miles away
getting a test drive with Suburu
I do like the Suburu blue but the pearl white looks very good in flesh
I was looking at 2 other cars RS Focus Mk2 and 370Z but they would have higher running costs.

What do these retail at ?

I loved my test drive of it. It's a really nice place to be and just feels perfect. Does need a little more power/torque IMO, but ignoring that it was just a lovely place to be.

Very envious!

Jealous. Having thrown one down a barrel spring for a day destroying tyres, I only wish I could afford one and a more practical car for the other half.

It's a kind of a shame they're not that little bit more practical. Would make the perfect all-rounder for the enthusiast with a little more room up the back.

Subaru sold 200 over here online only at full retail.

So now you have to buy them from Toyota until they get another shipment over...

Seen a few over here, not sold on the looks myself, it looks good in the Subaru blue though.

I enjoyed the test drive but it offered nothing my E36 didn't, therefore for £26k base, I'm out.

You may have preferred your E36 but there is no doubting a car that is at least 13 years newer (22 years newer if you consider when the first E36 was made compared with the first GT86 was made) will have offered things your BMW doesn't.
