Picked up my new car this weekend........955hp V10 Audi RS6! (HP figure updated 08/10/22)

Thats a common misconception but sadly there really isn't in the UK.

There's no track/V-Max event here with a long enough bit of track (at least 2-3 mile straight) to be able to do 200mph in that car and then slow down again. Hell mine at 740hp did 200mph in just under 1.5 miles and there STILL isn't any tracks/airfields in the UK where I could do that and slow back to zero safely, as nothing here is both long enough for both the acceleration and braking AND is available to the public, hence having to go to Germany to do 200mph legally.

Your right, there isn’t anywhere in the UK that’s why for work we go to Nardo for a lot of our testing.

There are places in the UK but not open to the public :(

Millbrook proving ground and the runway at RAF Thurleigh (but not sure if they even test there anymore). Though it might not be long enough for 200mph.

RAF Thurleigh - It's pretty much just a car park/storage now. The 2 mile runway is just too short for that particular car to start/200mph/stop but at Millbrook it could do it no problems.

The camera doesn't have to catch his Reg when he's speeding, he'll be on numerous camera's and on ANPR when at much lower speeds so they've just got to track him first. I posted this on PH -

You've a known small stretch of road (M-Plod can tell you exactly where it happened - North-bound M23 just after J9 apparently) passing a distinctive vehicle (the HGV carrying a large 'concrete' structure or sign on the back) in a small window of the day (12 hrs at most 8am to 8-pm but most likely in the afternoon rather than morning looking at the shadows) to watch say 30-60 "tapes" on fast forward until you see that HGV at that section of the M23. Then trace the tapes backwards/forwards until you get a nice clear shot of the Audi plate (possible ANPR once time/date known) and maybe even view more tapes (APNR maybe) to track the cars journey from start to finish. All about 8hrs of police work at absolute most.

Yes - good point. Even if they trace the car though, tracing the driver will probably be a lot harder, especially amongst certain communities. Whenever I watch those traffic cops type shows I'm always amazed at what some people get away with due to insufficient evidence to charge the driver.

@geekman - If they do manage to trace the car then "technically" the owner has to tell the Police who the driver is or face their own criminal charge for not disclosing. In reality they'd just say "I don't know" and, if the police don't have any CCTV of the drivers face (from their own cameras or from shops, garages etc), then there's very little the police can actually do without a serious investigation being carried out involving more officers, time & resources etc. In most cases it's more hassle than the end result is worth but in this case with it going viral then the upper management will authorise far more resources to be given to "cracking the case" than usual.

There's the Vmax event, is it Bruntingthorpe?

Plenty of cars there hitting 200mph+ and then some. Seen many videos of 996/997 turbos from the 9e and ESS stables.

And Thurleigh is a cracking bit of runway, but like it's been said already, it's just used for car storage now. I had a temp job up there when home from uni moving around cars from bodywork/paint to servicing to transporters etc. I think after then scrappage scheme cars were stored there.

I remember finding out the storage area for the Mercedes (over a huge grated area with massive pits below) was a VTOL test area for the Harrier jets and with the long length of the runway back in the day, it was also a test strip for Concorde.

Same with other crimes. A friend had his house robbed and car stolen. Police found the car and a laptop they took (had tracking software on it and they posted it on ebay). Not enough evidence :/

Seems like the the only reason to call the police now is to get a "crime number" for insurance reasons.

This done it in both SVR and 458, was just under 1 mile though as the whole runway was 1.3 mile in length and when it first started at a mile a 911 Turbo and M6 got wrote off due to the very short stopping distance. When I ran the SVR it was one mile but I was braking before the brake signs so I can brake and slow down for the 50mph corner with ease whereas as a 911 Turbo kept going and then hammered the brakes just after the brake boards and thus spun out and wrote the car off, he was not insured either so a 150k car down the drain. The M6 did not stop in time again due to braking at the boards but he just plowed through the field straight on, not sure if the car survived. As such later events they reduced it to like 0.8 mile so people had nearly half a mile to stop in, both the SVR and 458 were seeing similar speeds on the speedo of around 183ish but the SVR was around 172mph GPS and the 458 was 180mph GPS.

Here are those videos, not as quick as the RS6's but both cars are standard, SVR dyno'd at 610HP and the 458 hit around 570HP.

Could probably do the double ton at Elvington just outside York too (https://straightliners.events/index.php/top-speed-events?view=event&itid=4), run over a mile on a 1.9 mile runway.

A sufficiently powerful car could quite easily, but not that particular RS6 from the video. As mentioned above, my car at 740hp still needed 1.5miles just to reach 200mph, never mind slowing down afterwards, and the RS6 in the vid has around 140hp less power than mine did.

Thats the same issue that using Bruntingthorpe has. Some cars can do over 200mph there quite easily, just not the car from the video we were talking about.

Wow the Jag speedo is incredibly inaccurate compared to the Fezza. :p

Two very different sounding V8's too!

Yeah the SVR seem to overread by around 7-8% whereas 458 seems a fixed plus 2-3mph at any speed and my S2000 seems the same a fixed 1-2mph plus at any speed.

Well I suppose it's time for my yearly "What the hell are you doing to it now" update

Well good news! I'm now back in the UK after 20+ months "stuck" in Saudi due to the various COVID outbreaks and lockdowns and, once my travelling isolation period is up next week, I'll be popping up to collect my Car from Grizz at Unit20.

Whilst I've been away a few things have changed within the RS6 world and, as such, I've ordered a new set of Wagner intercoolers with radiators to replace my KWE ones, a new set of MPS4S tyres an in March I'll be getting a "new" version of the C6 RS6 map from MRC with multi-map swapping available, exhaust crackle on/off etc.

Wagner - For £2500 you get much bigger side mount IC's with much better flow rates and cooling. They're so big that the OEM mini-radiators which live behind the OEM side mount IC's have to be binned and Wagner have had to redesign a set of larger Rad's to go behind the front bumper.

Tyres - My current MPSS are 5+ years old and haven't moved in over 2 years now so an up/side-grade to the MPS4S is in order, got areally good deal through ATS Euromaster too at £785 for 4.

Map - Just to account for the better IC's and just update the map tech to the latest spec levels like "oh crap I can't get 99 RON fuel out here" map switching etc.

So the plan is to spend 6 weeks or so enjoying the car, pop back to Saudi til March then come back to the UK permanently and get the car re-mapped at that point (the mappers are away on hols themselves right now).

I'll update this thread again once I actually pick the car up next week and give everyone an update on what additional work was carried out since I left it with Grizz way back April '19 for the gearbox remove/fix/refit as I honestly can't remember half of what I asked to be done :D

Just about to go back to Saudi and I can honestly I've enjoyed the living hell out of my car - I had a slight delay picking it up due to catching COVID (I lived!) but I'm really happy to have it back!

So, what's happened over the past 2 and a half years then :D

Engine remove/refit and a million seals replaced.
Gearbox removed, upgraded (again) with newer parts, refitted.
All DRC suspension struts replaced
All DRC hydraulic lines to suspension from valves replaced
Bump stops replaced
New rear brake discs (AP Racing) and Pads (Ferodo DS2500)
All fluids replaced (literally every fluid)
Air Con regassed
New "face lift" rear lights fitted
Four Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres fitted
New Navigation disc (even though I use Google maps now)
New wipers allround
Aquamist Water/Meth serviced
New Devils Own 50/50 water/meth fluid used (fixed an odd issue with my "low level" sensor in my washer bottle always being on caused by my own 50/50 mix being juuuuuuust a little off)
Four new wheel valve covers as mine were rusty

Whats left -

New Wagner Intercoolers & Rad's bought (not fitted yet)
New map to account for new intercoolers, plus the maps now are lots better than the maps 6 years ago when I did mine as the ECU can now hold different maps for fuel, snap and crackle etc
Paint Correction
All alloys for a refurb, maybe TPMS replaced at the same time due to battery life
Headlights looked at - 1 has condensation, 1 has a ballast for my modded "secondary" headlight on it's way out.
Rehang the exhaust, the original KWE pipes/back boxes have never fit properly and always need fettling after being removed/touched. I'd like to replace it with a much better quality one but I love the sound my Frankenstein's monster of an exhaust makes (downpipe, decat/re-cat, cat-back pipe to boxes and the boxes to tips - all four sections are different makes).

Then once I'm back in the UK permanently, either in October or, worst case, Spring I'll see how much the potential value vs a house deposit works out. I mean I'll sell it but I need to decide how long to keep it for first.

Is the thread title accurate yet? :p

Soon™

:p

The new map + intercoolers should see me past 920hp I would suspect :D

Im sure with the new bits Ian could make 1000 now. :p

Probably more efficient small turbos available too so no need for chassis rail butchery? :D

TTE1000+ turbos are available  but I'm not doing that, it's way too much money to drop the engine/GB yet again (£2500-3000) then get the new Turbos (£3500), then get it all remapped again (£1000+) "just" for about 80-100hp extra over mine with the new IC's/map (1030hp seems the average the TTE1000's make).
