Pics of my new car

Oh, that's pretty good - I thought it'd go up a lot more than £100 - will have a word with the insurers at some point. Just coughed up £1,600 in insurance for the year, so I might wait a couple of months!

Oh another question for you 330d guys - what is the best oil to use, and is it easy to change it yourself? Does the Haynes manual cover the oil change on the 330d?

Nick, you cant get a Haynes manual for the 330d (or any diesel E46) i'm afraid. The oil change is reasonably easy, but it takes a HUGE amount of oil, and will cost you a bomb if you get it from Halfords. Dealer charges about £60 for this, (which is not far off the cost of the oil in the first place!)

I use Castrol in mine.

Or not being covered if they do!

Sorry, i've been there and done all that when i was younger! When you own a Nova, yeah, I can understand it. But when you own a 330cd, It could be like setting fire to £14k if they didnt pay out!

As far as i know you cant get a chip for this ecu,i only used that phrase as not to complicate things. There are 2 ways of getting more power from the 330d.1 is with an ecu reflash the other is with tuning box...The ecu reflash will give factory looks as nothing physical to see the other is a lot easier to remove if your car is still under warrenty and needs to be serviced by BMW...My car was on a rolling road 2 months ago giving 231 bhp and 414 lbs/ft of torque @the wheels which equates to near 300 bhp and 500 lds/ft @the flywheel...Alan..
This is the power graph....The light grey line is standard @ the wheels the dark is tuned @ the wheels

Looks great

12k seems a good price for one in such good condition :)

Cheers, I got it from Car Giant who just seem to hose down the cars (sometimes they don't even bother doing that!). It was a bit of a pig both internally and externally, and looked like it had never been cleaned in its 3 years. Mechanically it was sound, and all the buttons worked - so I put a deposit down.

I was surprised at how much difference a couple of hours of elbow grease made! It almost looks new inside and out. There are about 3 small dents (other drivers banging their doors against it in car parks  ) on the body work, but they're so small I can't be bothered to do anything about them. The interior has come out almost spotless too.

You got fantastic torque with that Alan. (the chip I was referring to is the tuning box). Did you get flashed then!?

I hope you have a manual, as even the manual gearbox on the 330d struggles with over 500nm or torque. You're pushing about 560nm!!!!

I would have expected a fraction more bhp though to be honest.

I've got a tuningbox fitted to my car and it's an auto. The auto can take more power so i've been told..You said you'd expect more bhp? is 231 @ the wheels not enough, this is approx 300 bhp @ the flywheel...

No, the autobox is unfortunately no where near as strong as the manual. The E46 manual box (330d) can only take around 500nm torque at the wheels, but it can do this for a fair few miles. Dont forget it does strongly depend on how you drive that power, but (and this is my factual opinion and that of some others in the tuning game) that the Autobox should not be taking more than 460-490nm of torque.

My bhp comment was only marginal. The 'best' i've seen on a 330d at the wheels was 246bhp, but the torque was lower (around 490Nm)

Have a look into Dent Wizard, probably cost you less than £100 to get your motor looking mint without the need for any paint.

Oh nice - I'll take a look, didn't think it would be so cheap :).
