Pics of my new car

Alan, that graph looks strangely odd for torque as does the quoted figure.

By my calculations, according to you bhp and revs you should be only at around 353lb/ft of torque, which is 478Nm. Far more realistic for an Autobox too. Just working it out from a formula.

If you were pulling 414lb ft of torque, that would work out (at that rev range) at 271bhp!!!

Somethings a bit strange there tbh!

No, the autobox is unfortunately no where near as strong as the manual. The E46 manual box (330d) can only take around 500nm torque at the wheels, but it can do this for a fair few miles. Dont forget it does strongly depend on how you drive that power, but (and this is my factual opinion and that of some others in the tuning game) that the Autobox should not be taking more than 460-490nm of torque.

My bhp comment was only marginal. The 'best' i've seen on a 330d at the wheels was 246bhp, but the torque was lower (around 490Nm)
That's funny as i've done over 16k miles with the Tuning box on at this power level with no problems...But then again it is still under warrenty so not too bothered..If a problem accurs off comes the box and i'll be on the phone to BMW to come and collect it to fix...I've also got two mates with the same boxes 1 auto and the other manual,i drove this manual and thought the feel of the shift on the box was terrible.I've also driven a e46 m3 which was better.

I'm not talking about the feel, i'm talking about the structural integrity of the box. The manual will last longer.

casette player - rofl.
Can't find the link/pics at the mo, but I've seen an e46 that looks like it has a standard business HU (as above) but it's only a fake cover, once removed a touch screen pops out that's connected to a car-pc. Thought it was rather

Yeah, it has a CD stack in the boot. Would quite like to replace the HU with an OEM tv though. Widescreen preferably, assuming I can grow a money tree first :p.

Would like to see that! Sounds class

i hate having the stack in the boot or some other crazy place, my dads car has it under the seat which annoys the hell outta me, much prefer it built into the dash like the mondeo.

Yeah it is like that in my Golf, I quite like it, but it's no real trouble having it in the boot. That said I'm going to fit an MP3 system anyway.

I noticed the tape deck too and thought... why does BMW still sell a car with them?! :D

Fantastic car - especially for a 22 year old! Brilliant! Enjoy it :)

My Clio standard HU is a tape deck, but with 6cd changer under the seat.

It's pretty much the first thing anyone comments on when they get in the car for the first time lol.

Although just won a nice Pioneer 8400 to use instead :)

nice car but update the dash with some blue lighting and get tird of that cassette player ASAP cant believe they still but them in cars, especially as yours is a 2002 model

I went to Car Giant this afternoon to look at 330ds. Must say I'm smitten now, and I havent driven one yet! The only reason I didnt drive one was becasue if I did, I'm pretty sure I would have put a deposit down there and then! :D

They had 4 or 5 to chose from, of varying spec. I think some guy who was test driving one of them ended up buying it today. I think they probably turnover pretty quick.

Give it a couple of months.....

Yup, that's exactly what I did last weekend. Looked at loads of different cars over the space of about six and a half hours - 530i, 520, 320i, 325, 330i, 330d. I decided I wanted one with a Sport pack, and went for a test drive in my 330d, when I returned I put a deposit down.

A couple of the 330d SE's were complete dogs (one didn't have any service history for the last 50,000 miles!), so watch out. However, don't let a grubby interior put you off. Car Giant don't bother cleaning anything properly, so you can't expect showroom fresh. As long as nothing's ripped/badly worn, a bit of elbow grease should have it looking close to new again. If you can't be bothered with that, I'm sure BMW would valet it for properly for you if you chucked them £50.

Cheers for that. Im pretty set on a 330d. The only alternative I can think of is a 180bhp Audi A4 quattro, but I think I'd rather have the BM. Sport pack is a hard choice. I would imagine the 18" wheels mean that the ride suffers, and it makes it more attractive to thieves etc. It does look fabulous though! However, I do kinda like the Q-car (or sleeper) idea of a 330d, loads of power and torque, but doesnt look like it has.

Enjoy the car mate. Let us know how you get on. :)

Really, really nice motor m8.

I'm not too fussed on 3 Series Beemers to be honest, but that one looks cracking.

You must be chuffed to bits with it.
