Pics of stuff we bought in November!

you use a DAC with a PC (USB) or Digital out, or with a phone which has USB digital out (nokia n8). to get a line out signal.

a DAC usually gives you one of the best line out signals you can get, this of course all depends on the quality of the DAC.

the best one Fiio make is the E17. their mid range one is the E7.

setups go like this

PC - DAC - AMP - HEADPHONES

PHONE - DAC - AMP - HEADPHONES

IPOD - LINE OUT - AMP - HEADPHONES

the E7 is a portable amp/dac, but it can only do one at a time. if your never going to use it as a DAC then sell it and get a E6/E11.

The E17 still has not been released yet, it has been in the pipeline for about a year.

http://www.head-fi.org/t/537356/fiio-new-products-guide

basically the E7 is the best DAC fiio currently make soon to be surpassed by the E17.

you cannot use DAC with an IPOD as far as i am aware. anyway its a lot of bulk to be carrying also if you dont use it for DAC.

get an E6/E11 if you want an AMP.

get an E7 if you want an AMP/DAC (will need another amp when using as DAC)

now the amps you couple with the DAC can be portable or not depending on where your going to be using them.

in the home the best combo is E7 and an E9, on the go the best combo is an E7 and an E11.

anyway mate, it sounds as if you bought the wrong thing, you need an E6 or an E11.

Hi,

I'm currently looking to buy some new headphones and probably an amp afterwards. I'm pretty new to all this I've never owned high quality headphones nor an amp or DAC. I made a thread on Head fi, if you don't mind could you take a look? My last post especially.

Thanks :)

I'll be honest this is 2 months worth, but i couldnt be bothered to post before :p

From left to right (Kind of?)
MBP 13" Early 2011, Iiyama Prolite E2407HDS, Logitech G400, Iphone 4s 16gb + Switcheasy case, Contact lens plan (Absolutely love them now :D), Bosh windscreen wipers for after winter, purchased 2 pairs and these ones i put away. Finally took advantage of the £80 for £20 bodyshop offer for the GF and mother.

Also to come today (IF DX Secure decide to deliver) OCUK MUG! Finally! and a new Ozone gaming gear mousemat.

Edit: If secret santa is looking i'd appreciate an Ipad to add to the collection, cheers ;)

That being said, there probably are people who would buy a leopard print hard drive enclosure to go inside it!

good customer review though, i thought ;)

I was smitten as soon as I saw her, she was a rare thing of beauty, leapard print, brown, amazing legs and seductive eyes. I opened her up to reveal a well groomed interior with all the bits in the right places, it was exactly as I had imagined when I was waiting for delivery for her. She practically begged me to fill her with my 2.5"er, it had sat useless on the shelf for what seemed like months, desperate to find somewhere for me to stick it, it was now going to be the time where it would see some action and it was the most exciting thing that had happened to the little hard thing in all its life. It went in easy, with a satisfying click, it wasnt enough though, there was still some screwing to be done after which, spent, joined as one the 2.5" and the sultry enclosure basked in their magnificent union. There was still one opening that needed to be filled to bring more life, another satisfying insertion saw it spring to life, ready to give a lifetimes work. Good HD en!
closure.

 :D

Very good Mark. Though I read your last sentence in a Glaswegian accent, thought you were saying "Good HD 'en".

Made me smile.

Been 6 months looking for this for less than £20

And I picked it up this morning :D £19.50+pnp only downside is it doesn't have the little cardboard box but mint disc's makes me smile for all the cold winter time retro gaming I have ahead (along with skyrim when I'm allowed to buy that)

Haha caught red handed!

I think we should be free to discuss the worth of purchases, just there is no need for anyone to be overly insulting or offended - we are all adults after all.

what sources you going to be using?

you say pc and ipod touch?

it all depends on your budget, its going to cost a lot of money, for both setups.

£5-10 for a line out (L6 or L9) and £42 for a portable AMP (E11) = roughly £50 for your portable rig

now your home rig you have many different options, i dont know much about home rigs, as i dont have one myself, so i have not looked into them that much but i think your options are

sound card with built in headphone amp - £22

i think you can connect any sound card to an external desktop amp (e9), but im not entirely sure on this - £70 minimum

no sound card, AMP/DAC combo (E7 and E9) - £120 minimum

or you can buy an E10 (dont know what it is though)

this is what i can gather from this

http://www.head-fi.org/t/573969/find-the-best-fiio-products-for-you

personally would buy L9, E11 and a sound card with built in amp (£72).

then compare the SQ of your ipod touch to your pc setup, if you the pc setup is noticeably inferior, buy an e17/e9 combo when it is released in febuary.
