Over the last few days we had been hearing an almost constant "thump thump" background noise, which although not loud penetrates inside the house and is highly annoying. Having ruled out anything in the house such as a leaking pipe or tap-hammer, intrepid wifey did a bit of detective work yesterday and discovered the noise is coming from a building site about 300 - 400 yards away where they are driving piles into the ground.
This has been going on for several days and starts at around 8am through to about 6pm. It's akin to having a constant disco/techno beat in the background to everything you do! Add to the fact I'm working nights this week and even earplugs can't keep the sound out, as the vibrations must be getting transmitted through the ground. I've registered a complaint with the council but am I right in thinking this will probably go nowhere, given the need to pile drive was probably agreed in the planning permission? Are there any limits on the amount of pile driving the construction company should be doing in the day, or the length of continuous time driving piles?
It's slowly driving us both mad or, well, madder...
