Pile Driving Near Our House

We had this when they built Stoke City's Britannia Stadium, we just had to put up with it.
However, a few months later a company built one of those wind turbine things where people pretend to skydive and it caused so much noise & rattling in peoples houses they had to close it down. The nearest house was about 200 yards away. They were also ordered to stop when Stoke were at home.

unfortunately houses need to be built. Some land needs Piling to be done.

Looks like the house i want to build needs it, and I'm actually happy. Will annoy the people next door no end. perfect.

Ouch that's harsh when you're working nights. Been there :( Any chance you can explain the situation at work and swap to days?

See if you can find the planning permission conditions from the planning authorities website (should be available online). As long as they are sticking to the conditions, there's not much you can do.

My neighbours had scaffolding put up 3 weeks ago, completely blocked my sky dish from getting a signal. the roofer has only started work last Thursday as he was on holiday. Constant banging all day every day and we've another 2-3 weeks of it.

Shouldn't take that long for a semi-detached but from seeing him work elsewhere on the street he's not fast. :(

Nothing can be done but putting up with it.

Out of interest, did they have to ask permission to put scaffolding up or did they notify you out of courtesy?

I think it depends on the road. Some places where the community is close knit, they will ask the road when they have something ugly popping up for a few weeks or if a tree surgeon is coming round to make some noise.

Got to love the responses so far (at least it's a bit of light relief from the political threads).

Re swapping off nights, not really an option unfortunately just have to tough it out. Luckily today they didn't seem to be at it so much, the pile drivers that is, or I was so zonked I slept through it anyway. Hopefully they won't be working over the weekend and I finish nights Mon morning anyway.

I did check Swindon Council Planning site but couldn't see anything directly related to noise limitation. As some have said it has to be done and best they get it out the way over the shortest period possible.
