Up a tree - where else?
Well, I was listing a caravan on ebay for a friend of mine. You know, one of those things that follow cars round and clog up the roads on Bank Holidays.

Jokingly, I listed that postage would be £50,000 via 2nd class post, not expecting anyone to take it seriously. Wrong!!!!

Some total muppet decided to report it for fee avoidance. And ebay acted on it. Sheesh! Some people!
I think this calls for a:

No doubt somewhere on some forum a user is getting praised for helping out those helpless ebay users that would have failed to have noticed the scam.

ahem....the jokes on you?

shouldn't really muck about on an auction that you are serious about. I can see you are kidding, but honestly can you not see how the guy who report you have grounds to do so? If you were selling say a pin or something then the postage obviously won't be that much, nor will the pin worth that much (unless it's made of diamond and used to belong to Queen Victoria or something). A Caravan (decent one) could easily cost £50,000, so personally it could seen you are avoiding ebay fees.

Yeah, I guess. I'm just gobsmacked that anyone would take it seriously though.

Let this be a lesson to you, only Nigerian scammers can get away with wrong doing on ebay.
Darn! And I thought no-one would notice. ;)

So am I.

Some people seem to have a serious sense-of-humour failure.

Yeah, okay, technically I suppose it's against the rules. But I can't help but think it was bleepingly obvious it was just a joke. Sign of the times, I guess, TF.

I take it from this then there is actually a thriving industry that deals with the postage of caravans then, and this bloke took offence to your mick taking ?

What an absolute goon, some people really need to get a sense of humour.

I suppose his argument is that you are wanting 50k plus the auction figure for the caravan, but ffs does a new caravan even cost that ? I know some of the big immobile ones can cost that and more but the towed ones are nothing like that expensive are they?

I have a sense of humopur, it's in it's box, unused. I may put it on Ebay (do you know of a sense of humour carrier?)

The one constant I've found when doing anything to do with EBay is that everything goes smoothly until a friend asks you to sell or buy something for them. As soon as that happens, everything goes to hell, people won't/don't pay, end listings early, won't reply to emails, and so on. I once got asked to sell some stuff on behalf of an animal charity and got loads of abuse from the representatives of the company who manufactured the stuff! Personally, I've never had a problem, it's only when I'm doing a favour for someone else that I run into all the dodgy EBayers...

I can think of someone who could use it ...

Sense of humour carrier? I can think of a couple of courier companies whose services are a joke - does that count? ;)

I think it's fair to report it, because when you bid, ebay pops up a big message about agreeing to pay postage costs...
I did also say payment on collection much preferred.

I guess I'm just surprised that someone a) believed it, and b) acted on it.
