I am not surprised that piracy is massive, it's well to easy to get music/games/videos with all the online forums, dedicated websites with information and material etc.

And I think it can only get worse as the new generation know well how to use computers and the internet, it's only a matter of time when kinds learn how to download free music.

You can see where the gaming market is going, with more online content and unhackable consols (ps3/wii) and companies making $$$ gaming industry is definitely safe imo. I can only think of very few examples where only an average game creator complained that due to piracy they lost money (make better gamed instead!!!, good games always sell well).

And to musicians "move your lazy asses and do more gigs", im sure there's $$$ to be made.

I also can't see good movies not making $$$ easily, you can always see "Movie 1" made xxx millions $ in opening weekend. Easy large amount of $$$ to be made.

Piracy while its there doesn't make much of a difference.

The Wii is most definitely NOT unhackable.

Really? 7 years ago almsot everyone did. Now pretty mcuh everyone I know no buys from legit sources like Itunes, steam or any number of online providers.

This is such nonsense, a decade ago when not everyone was on the internet all day people who knew computers and knew how to use usenet and programs like Kazaa were used lots of people did.

Most people I know who did so still do so, me included(usenet). However its the millions of hapless facebook users who WEREN'T downloading stuff on kazaa a decade ago who are now on the internet all day long and use things like itunes because its easy.

The ratio of legit downloads to non legit has gone up as the ratio of computer literate and illiterate has changed accordingly.

You know more people how who use itunes, because those guys weren't around 10-15 years ago.

I mostly download TV anyway, largely because a huge amount of films these days are utter dross, but tv is simply available earlier online.

I'd happily pay to watch them as they air, I do still happily pay for boxsets I enjoy and I watch some of them on TV aswell as shelling out for Sky, and a tv licence which all goes to paying for syndication of the show. I fail to see, considering I pay for the tv, who I'm stealing off. Is it stealing when you buy something with interest free credit off OCUK?

I don't download music, because again so much utterly awful music around, I know what I like, I like the muscians I like and I like supporting them. Again I'll happily download their album first while waiting to receive it.

I downloaded the Lotro extended editions first, after being to the cinema for all 3, and having ordered the box set of extended editions as they were available.

I can usually tell what I'll enjoy, you know what type of films you like and you know what you don't like with the very odd rare exception. So mostly I end up buying what I download, the few times I don't, well boohoo, I wouldn't buy it anyway, I don't think I've ever bought a film I haven't seen. So if I didn't download it I'd catch it on sky movies, which I paid for, after which sky pays for rights to show the movie, everyones getting paid for everything I watch no matter what way you cut it.

Ah, but piracy isn't stealing, you're not "stealing" from anyone.

Piracy isn't theft, it's piracy.

I would agree though that more people now will be downloading, it's just so easy to do.

.

What do you mean they weren't around?

they were around copying cd's of each other and before that tapping the radio.

I disagree look at the poll, even two years ago I would have expected it to be much higher. As the price drops and online digital services mature. I expect more and more people to buy stuff.

There might be more downloaders than a decade ago, but don't forget cd and tape copiers. But I recon in the last 2 or so years he % of copyright infringer has dropped and it certainly has become more socially unacceptable.

i buy music and games because i get many hours of enjoyment from them and i feel it's worth the money. films on the other hand.....

I will download pograms like photoshop and 3d max 2010 because i think that they are a stupid price for what they are but games are worth it due to i can get over 50hours out of most i buy.

I download quite often for things like games but I buy those games, well I buy the good ones, anything which is pants just gets deleted and mental note made never to buy no matter how cheap they are!

Think of it as try before you buy... ;)

When did the FBI hire you?

Public forum + admiting to breaking the law, genius.
Are you dumb? It is hardly an admission of guilt.

A photo of you holding a crack pipe can not prove (without reasonable doubt) you were smoking crack to the courts.

Anyway, I do not download any software or games. Any films or tv series are bought on DVD/blu-ray (without exception for the last 2 years).

I try to be a good boy but never do, force of habit really. Also I do have a thing for wrestling themes/entrance music which the majority has never been released, so I pirate that, don't have a choice.

The WWE does have CDs for most their themes, just to point out.

Kind of telling how high the piracy percentage is in the poll
