Places to eat and things to do in Edinburgh

I'd go Glasgow too.

Morning - Paintball, footgolf or go karting, etc. Spend the day in the west end - ashton lane then at night go to the corinthian; lavish nightclub in the basement and casino as well as bar and restaurant all in one, you will need to dress smart to get in though.

For food the asian place that does teppenyaki next to rotunda casino is good but expensive a much cheaper but better option imo is kebabish (indian) in the south side.

The only reason why Edinburgh is the capital is because of the castle other than that it has nothing tbh. Glasgow is the real capital. You could even do a subcrawl in Glasgow.

To be fair Stirling has a better castle than Edinburgh too :D

For real ale try The Bow Bar on Victoria Bow. Camera Obscura is a bit of fun on the Royal Mile. Some good museums like The Peoples Story and The Museum of Childhood further down the mile. Mosque Kitchen is good for cheap eats and big portions. It's quite near to The Dagda - another nice real ale place

I got into the corinthian after leaving seventh heaven once that closed and falling out with a hack driver over my chips bring on his floor.

Only thing I remember was seeing that I was still drinking at 6am and was working at 9.30am so waved my boss goodbye.

Merchant city is nice, West end/Ashton Lane is nice, even along kelvingrove towards Partick has a lot of places to eat and drink.

The best place for beer I've ever been in Edinburgh is a recently opened bar called Ushers, on West Nicholson Street near the university campus. They've got a great variety of craft beers, very nice décor and helpful staff.

Other good central bars include:

- Panda & Sons: prohibition style bar with a barber shop front, you open the bookcase to get into the bar! It's great for cocktails, and they have a few nice beers on as well.
- Le Monde: fancy bar on George Street, usually very busy.
- Tiger lilly: nice George Street bar.
- Indigo Yard: Near Panda & Sons and Tiger Lilly, bit more casual than the above, but they do nice cocktails and a variety of beers.
- Devil's Advocate: quite small, really near Waverley Station, but a nice bar nevertheless.
- Dragonfly Cocktail Bar: decent cocktails near the historic Grassmarket. If you're down that way it's worth paying a visit.

Clubbing:

If you want big nightclubs your options are limited: Hive (refer to above posts), Cav (sticky carpets, lots of locals, pretty trashy), Silk (also pretty trashy). It's not a great city for clubbing, but of the above I'd take Cav or Silk over Hive. Hive used to have a large pothole outside the front door known as the "chundering pothole".

Smaller clubs are dotted along George Street. They're classier but also dearer and I'm not a huge fan of any of them. Opal Lounge is supposedly where Will and Kate go when in the city. I don't like it there.

Food:

Edinburgh's full of great independent eateries. Depends on your budget of course though. If you want the best eating experience look no further than Castle Terrace. Here's some more reasonable suggestions:

Curry - Kebab Mahal: it's cheap, it's dingy, and it's the best curry I've ever had. Don't go near the Mosque Kitchen when this is so near.

Italian - Gusto on George Street is a good shout, as is LA Favorita on Leith Walk.

Chinese - I'm a fan of Zen Kitchen, they cook it all from scratch.

Thai - Chaophraya, just off Princes St.

Scottish - Neave's just off the Royal Mile. His raspberry souffle is to die for as well.

Hope I've been of some help! :)

Righty

I must admit I much prefer Glasgow to Edinburgh for a night out (if you do decide to go please don't go to the Corinthian for long, it's full of wannabe Wags and many, many prats) however Edinburgh can also be a good, if usually expensive night out.

I'd plan to end the night in the pub (or casino/strippers if that's your thing) as the clubs are a bit crap on the whole really.

You've got a few decent places already mentioned above but generally if you decide to wander along Rose street and up to George street you'll find a few places. If you want to go to Grassmarket (bit overhyped as per some of the other posts but can be good in summer) start there then head round towards Rose/George St.

If theme type bars are your thing there are a few down towards Cowgate, Brewdog is also down this way - not my thing but might be yours.

You've already been given good food tips (chop chop is another Chinese worth considering) and tbh it is really going to depend on what you actually like. Figure out where you'd like to go and book ahead though or you've little/no chance of getting in with a group of that size.
