Plane geeks on the forums?

Are you at OAT?

I want to go there in a few years.

I'm a plane enthusiast.I don't see how it is geeky. Sure if you are always at the airport jotting down registrations then it is, but isn't that more about filling out your book rather than enjoyiong watching planes?

Yup, at Goodyear airport, just south west of Phoenix city center. Great place, totally recommend it. Altho have just had another flight cancelled due to the plane going tech :(

Snip...(OAT)

I was just outside the OAT building today :) I've been driving around oxford looking at flats for the past two days and I thought I'd pop into the Airport for a peek.

Anyway, back to topic, I'm a pretty avid aviation fan having just done a 4 yr degree in Aeronautics. I'm going to Farnborough on friday and am like a little child at the prospect! Granted, I'm working in motorsport but I don't think that will be a very long term thing and my career hopes are still to fly for a living. Need to save up some money for OAT though :p

I hate that, I always get absolute greasers right on the numbers when no-one is around to see them ;)
They do it on purpose.

I was coming in a few weeks ago and noticed a Spitfire waiting for me to land. I had to go around as I couldn't help but look at it. :D

I've had that before, only with Air Force 1! I was more worried about what old georgie bush thought of my landing and ended up coming in too fast, I think I landed about a mile down the runway. Thank god for massive runways :D

They should warn you about these things! And to think how many guns were aiming at your plane at the time...

*raises hand*

Military Aviation Geek here!

Helped living in the middle of Norfolk with US and RAF air bases all around me. Got to see loads of good things.

Although it is very sad when you start to recognise whats flying over by the sound and don't even have to look up.

Biggest problem for me is all the new aircraft are so dull!!!

Last week saw a Eurofighter up close and a FW190 - the FW190 took a hell of a lot more attention from me and everyone else than the Eurofailure

BTW... The FW190 is a superb plane and will hoepfully be flying for the first time in over 60 years soon. :D Even the gunsight is on it's original bulb!

Stop trying to confuse people :p

project 1.44/42 = mig-35 = mig-39 = mig-MFi = flatpack

I swear I only saw the Mig29 flying at Fairford( or I heard somewhere that the mig 35=mig 29 export), by far the most impressive thing although the display was short, seemed so much more manoverable than anything the US or UK had there. The F-15 did a rather impressive climb mind, I think it still holds the record though.

Depends on who you listen to...

Russians: Time from brakes off to an altitude of 118,898: 3 min 10 sec set by Alexandr Fedotov on the 17 May 1975 - Ye-266M (MiG-25 Prototype)

Americans: "Streak Eagle" reached an altitude of 98,425 ft. just 3 minutes 27.8 seconds from brake release at takeoff and "coasted to nearly 103,000 ft. before descending.

So - USSR - 1 : USA - 0

;)

I love going on OcUk daily but I have a social life :p . I don't play Dungeon and Dragons, own a pocket protector, wear glasses or even snort (well, most of the time) I can be a geek when I choose to be though

What are those Stealth fighters/bombers? They are big and black and kinda look like a triangle

These:

B2.jpg

And what ones best and are there very many in the world?

Firstly, The answers are in the Image names !

The F117 'NightHawk' is a Stealth Fighter, (top angular looking chap) and the B2 is a Bomber.. as for which is best, the f117 win the dogfight, but whats the point in that when the B2 just obliterated your country with nukes.... :D

If you want a funky plane, you want an SR-71 ;)

I wouldn't call myself a "plane geek" but I do like military aircraft - went to the Mildenhall airshow for many years before 9/11. Since then the airshow hasn't been held.

By the way, the Mig-25 is the fastest combat aircraft at Mach 3.2. Can't beat the old Blackbird though, which still holds the official record for the fastest production jet aircraft.
