Planes, how do they work?

If you haven't watched it, the documentary on Netflix about Boeing and the merger is amazing television. The focus switch from safety to share price etc...

The merger combined the worst bits of McDonnell Douglas with the best bits of Boeing. Sadly that worst bit was all the management and the best bit was all the engineers which has absolutely wrecked the ethos of a once great company.

I suppose planes get safer after every crash or procedures are changed ? that horrendous Concorde flight, delayed flight so they skipped the runway check, strip of metal left on the runway finds weak spots
As said before i haven't flown for decades and pretty phobic now

Indeed - whether it's Human Factors, a modification or service bulletin, a change in maintenance or operating procedures, there's always improvements being made to the system. The legislation involved in becoming an airline is just absolutely horrific in it's size and depth.
