I know there are a few old PS troopers out there, so thought you may be interested in ths (if only for a quick monthly resub for a blast :D)

PlanetSide Customer Service Notification

Greetings Soldier of Auraxis!

In the interest in maintaining a high level of competition and gameplay within the three empires of PlanetSide®, the Werner server will be merged into the Gemini server on August 25, 2009.

Preserve your Legacy! After the merge, many character names will be duplicated, and priority will be given to players who have logged in most recently and to those who created their names first. (See below for name change details.)

As a thank you to our loyal PlanetSide players, special merits will be given to native Werner players to represent your past server. Characters will receive their merits upon logging in to Gemini for the first time after the server merge is complete.

Character Name Conflict Rules

*

Players that have logged in to their characters during the ninety (90) day period immediately preceding the server merge will have priority to their character names.
*

If both players have logged in to their characters during the ninety (90) day period immediately preceding the server merge, priority goes to the player who created the character name first.
*

If neither player has logged in to their characters during the ninety (90) day period immediately preceding the server merge, priority still goes to the player who created the character name first.
*

Characters who are deemed the lower priority duplicate name based on the rules described above will have a "-W" (for Werner characters) or a "-G" (for Gemini) added to the end of their name.
*

Any player who receives the "-W" or "-G" to the end of his or her character name will be able to change his or her name by using the following command in game: /rename <currentname> <new name>
*

There is no deadline for name change completion, but once a name is changed it cannot be changed again.
*

Reserve, trial and rental accounts that did not convert to a fully paid and entitled subscription prior to August 25, 2009, will have all characters on such accounts deleted, will not be eligible to have characters moved to the Gemini server as part of the server merge, and will no longer have access to characters on those accounts after the server merge (August 25, 2009).

Example of a name conflict: If "Thom" from Werner was created before "Thom" from Gemini, then "Thom" from Werner would remain the same, and "Thom" from Gemini would become "Thom-G" on Gemini.

Outfit Name Conflict Rules

Duplicated outfit names will change similar to duplicated character names.

* Priority will be given to the outfit name created first. The outfit name created second will be deemed the duplicate name.
* Outfit names that are deemed to be the duplicate outfit name will have a "-W" (for Werner outfits) or an "-G" (for Gemini outfits) added to the end of their outfit name.
* Outfits with a duplicate name containing the "-W" or "-G" suffix, will be allowed to change their outfit name. Outfit leaders will be permitted to change the outfit name while in game with the command: /outfitrename <new name>
* There is no deadline for name change completion, but once a name is changed, it cannot be changed again.

Quite a few on my outfit (MoX) are gonna resub if only for a month, would be good to have a good EU showing to show the Yanks how it's done :D

Had some epic battles on this 4/5 years back, what sort of player base would I likely see if i re-subbed? Remember 3 way battles at one point of upwards of 150 people

Holy!

I might have to resub, just to see what its like with possible server locks!

And six, its been pretty empty, but hopefully this merge should see pop locks again, and a return to the huge battles. Recently its been pretty bad though, people have just been leaving the game due ot bugs and hackers, though I've not had a sub this year, so it may be better. But with news of this merge, hopefully people will be resubbing, if only for a couple of months to see what its like.
If Sony were smart, they'd add a free 2 week activation to all inactive players as well to ensure good numbers.

this game used to have huge issues with vista, are these still present, and what about 7? although i suppose that could be got round with the virtual xp mode? always loved the game as a concept and would be nice to try it again

and well, if the old corp i was in is still around, even better

I had it running perfectly well in Vista with no problems. That said, I have UAC disabled, which seems to remove most problems with games not working.

Is there a point to playing yet? I mean it was really innovative in its day but the never ending war with absolutely no purpose whatsoever was always a real dampener for me.

Because it's immense fun?

This is great news, will definitely resub for a month at least and see what the pops are like. Tried to restart on Gemini a while back, but just couldn't face the grind back up to the lvl 18 character I had on Werner.

What's the population like nowadays? I used to play it back in the day when it first hit the servers and there was always an unbalance between the sides, is that still there?

Well i was a a number 1 fan of PS back in the day but nothing is going to make it as good as it was "back in the day"

BFRs messed it up, and i knwo they have been nerfed to oblivion since their release but i don't care:O

cant believe people still playing this awful game

i remember when i was first announced i was so looking forward to it
and when the beta came i was so disappointed

server side hit detection and weapon imbalances ruined what could have been a great game

You mean client side? Server side is what most games use. Balances come and go with patches, and if you roll with a good enough outfit then the power of 1 weapon won't make a difference :)

oops yeah i meant client side knew it was one of the two either way it was well annoying you empty clips into people on for to hit air and then be dead not knowing wtf just happened

i mainly played as the NC and i must admit the jackhammer was abit overpowered but it was nothing compared to the TR pounder max
3 or so of them together inside buildings were pretty much invincible

People who play games in beta and then assume they never change throughout their lifetime

acutally bought it at release and played it for a good 10 months after that hoping it would improve

i even tried it again in early 2006 and it was still the same

They sorted the major balances after about 3 - 4 months. Yes, the JH is very powerful, but only close. Tactics mean far more in PS than what weapon you have. I have no probs beating most JH users with a sweeper as long as they don't get the jump on me.
