Planetside finally gets a server merge!

Blimey I used to play this years ago and sold my copy. I wouldn't have thought it was still going. Seems to be quite a following still! Might have to have another look. Was good fun at the time.
 
To be honest I think there is a few things contributing to this mini resurgence. IMO Planetside was almost before its time in terms of game content and what it aimed to achieve. When you add that to the fact that it was certainly before the time of widespread sensible speed broadband and its many problems with packetloss, it was inevitable that peoples' interest would wane.

The recent offering of free gaming until 28th August has definitely made a few of us want to give it one last try and so far I have certainly been pleasantly surprised.

yeah the free 40 odd days helps, and to be honest i cant even remember why i didn't subscribe back in 2004 .
 
don't think I'll re-sub for that price tho, if they lowered the charge I would think about it.
I thought they where going to support it via adverts?

I think they do have adverts if you're in America. We have the display boards in the bases but they just show a Planetside advert.
 
I'll probably take out a station access sub for a month or two, since I have a Vanguard sub anyway, and have wanted to try out EQ2 again to see what's changed.

Don't think I could justify a full price sub for PS alone, especially since it's not getting any real development done to it at this stage.

I went onto Gemni a few weeks ago an didnt see anything on them except the planetside logo. :confused:

I have never actually seen them advertise anything.

Look on the squad listing and look for the largest squad going. Even better would be to set your own squad (obviously list the squad) up and get BR and CR at the same time! :):cool:

Yeah they do it based on your IP address. If you're in America you can go on either Werner or Gemini and you will see adverts, however we can go on either server and not see adverts.

yeah vista x64 - you've got to let it run as an administrator and in xp compatibility mode - there's fixes in this thread i think. also, the station launcher thing (rather than the planetside launcher) also seem to help
 
Yep, running on Vista 64. You need to run the executable (rather than just the launchpad) in Win95 compatibility mode, but it works fine.
 
Got it working under Windows 7 without any of the compatability fixes in the end, just need to run the launcher as admin.

Recognise some names in here. It's been really fun since I've been back, although I'm not enjoying the BR grind up to 40. I just want to know what it is!
