Getting a TV for my 21st which was January...

and i was looking at the samsung 42" plasma seem Great for the money.

I do plan to hook my PC up to it but only for watching films or other crap i have 2 decent monitors for gaming...

anyways any advice?

Every Plasma TV i have seen has had much poorer image quality to an LCD TV. All I can think of is that you must have to spend an awful lot more money buying a plasma TV thats has better image quality.

They introduced new laws regarding purchasing of televisions at the start of the year; if you have the inability to spell basic words such as you're or I'll then they aren't allowed to sell you a TV by law.

Plasma > LCD; however LCDs are cheaper than Plasmas.

Certainly if you want above 42" I'd say get a Plasma or forget it and below 37" I'd say forget the expense of a Plasma and get an LCD. Inbetween 37" and 42" though is very subjective.

Depending upon your budget you might get more bang for your buck from an LCD and depending upon what you use it for and how close you sit an LCD might be better.

All down to personal preference.
I went into store after store and looked at Plasma & LCD.

In the end although I felt that the blacks were just that little more "black" on a Plasma, I decided that LCD was for me.

I watch SD television - standard channels and Sky.
I game via a PS3 and I watch Upscaled DVD's or Bluray.

I personally feel that my 40" LCD offers blacks nearly as good as plasma and its full 1080p.
The set may have cost me £1000 but I feel it was a damn good investment.

"The best TV of 2007 as voted by you – and I fully concur – is the Pioneer Kuro true HD LX series plasma television. While some HDTVs may eclipse the Pioneer LX in one area or another (e.g. the blacks on Samsung F96), no other flat screen television – be it LCD or plasma – delivered as good a picture quality when all the important elements of picture quality (such as black level, shadow detail, contrast ratio, colours, video processing and motion handling) are taken into account as a package."

Taken from the year end Poll on HDTV test (and a view I totally agree with)
And I have yet to ses ANY LCD come any where near this Plasmas picture quality (in terms of black, responses times or colour saturation) - and don't start me about motion blur or digital smearing.....this doesn't even happen on this TV, which is more than can be said for 80% of LCDs - but what can you expect when they spend their time making up each pixels colour by subtracting colours from white light..)

;)

Your quote is still nothing more than one persons or rather one organisations opinion.
Everything is in the eye of the beholder.
