Some Q`s (I could have probably have found this out of the blood.co.uk site, but it serves as a bump)

Would I have to go to the blood center (Its only 10 mins walk away) and ask to book a time to come in? I got the opening times off the site, and also found out were it is.

Secondly, as I said I was going to go with a friend or 2 - anyone been with other people, can you sit in (and say chat..) to another person whos waiting while the blood is taken? Or would me going with friends be fruitless if your all stuck in different rooms/and/or have to take turns (this turning one hour into 2 or 3)

Thanks :) I live close by, but my friends dont, so it`d be a "do something good" day out.

Yes you would, or call them first to arrange a time.

Hmmmm. Not sure on that one. The procedure takes over an hour and would anyone want to wait while it gets done ? I just read a book or the paper.

( and look at one of the nurses )

My local clinic sometimes has people waiting by the beds of those doing apheresis. They are usually spouses/children, but in the case of friends I assume that if the donor doesn't mind then the clinic doesn't. The only real problem is likely to be shortage of chairs!

I'm going in to demand all my freebies next time.

You go girl! (mental note to self: must stop playing Postal2...). I know what you mean: the goits never gave me my glass for 200, and forgot my 300 until I reminded them.

I've never seen anyone come in and have their mates sat with them. Usually they either wait and read/eat biccies in another room or give blood themselves. One woman brings her kids in, and they sit colouring in at the tables.

You usually have one of the nurses or volunteers sat next to or near you to chat to anyway.

Hey - just an update, gave my first blood donation today, mates got to read the homestyle magazines at the biccy area :) I had fun, at first my blood was a bit slow, but after some finger wigglying it got on its merry way :) Dont weigh enough to give platelets (I asked) and Ive taken a bone marrow leaflet to read for next time im in.

There is a weight limit, but I can't remember ATM. I'm back in on Monday so I'll try to find out. I know it's about half a stone over normal whole blood though.

BTW Lostkat, you will remember to archive this thread this time, won't you? :D

Another double donation made last night, and brings this back up to the front page.

Hit a problem though, and the nurse wants to reduce the amount of anti-coagulant next time I'm in. Half way through last night, I started feeling as though I was sitting on a washing machine, with the seat vibrating. I'm used to my lips tingling a bit, but this was a whole new sensation, and one that wasn't very pleasant. Hopefully the reduction will make it more bearable.
