It was. I find it amusing how we mock other cultures yet mirror them at the same time.
I suspect that it is "King" Jong-un mirroring ours. His dynasty stretches a mere three generations whereas the British Royal family can go back some distance further. As for any even slight resemblence to the murderous fat pig of North Korea, I would dispute it fully.

Yes, that's my point.

I omitted your last sentence as you kinda contradicted that with what preceded it.

Well, you don't have to go very far back to find the royal family isn't very British at all :p

Your inference was that we mock other cultures and yet mirror them at the same time. I assumed the we was us Brits and we certainly do not mirror NK. Again there is no correlation between our Royal family and the Kim dynasty.

One cannot help that we owned half of France due to marriage and several wars and also that the British royals were cousins to most of European royalty as well. So yes there is French, German, Russian, Dutch and probably a few dozen others legitimate or otherwise that we lay claim to. A lot can happen in a thousand years.

Yes, I get it - we created the vagina lottery appreciation society and other cultures copied that, including North Korea.

If we did have the rule of first born - first in line to throne, regardless of gender in 1900. When Queen Victoria died, her eldest, Victoria (Vicky) only lived a few months after her mother.

Vicky’s eldest child was no other than Kaiser Wilhelm II!

What would have happened then??

No exaggeration, there's a whole estate party (roughly 70 houses) happening on the Saturday, and they've even got "special permission" to close the road. They did this by announcing it on Facebook, and only about 10% of the estate are on the Facebook group. Let's just say it didn't go down too well with the people who have to work.

The trains would've probably run on time ;)

Slightly surprised there's no thread on this, although that may speak volumes TBF.

Is anyone else finding it all a bit outdated and cringey? My employer doesn't do the bank holidays but fair play to those who do get them. Other than that is there really very much enthusiasm out with the enforced participation?

It all feels a bit King Jong-Un. Maybe every major city could get a missile to march behind? :D

Anyone actually planning an "event"?

Definitely not, I don't believe in the monarchy so no celebration from me, that said, I like having a long weekend.
