Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

9.4 mile run in Edale yesterday, took just over 2 hours including some walking and taking photos.

3 miles this evening in 21:14.

Rest day tomorrow. :)

It is indeed. Weather was amazing as well but it still gets cold at the top regardless of what it's like near the village. Ended up running up some of Jacob's Ladder and walking most of it then heading towards Kinder Scout. 3rd time I've been now, last time me and a mate ran from Edale to Stockport.

Also get to train in Glossop as well but only been once so far, next on the list is going to be Winter Hill near Bolton and possibly Carrbrook near Mosley.

Nice one on your long run on Sunday, hope it all goes well in Windermere for you, beautiful place and where I did my first marathon too. You'll have a great day. :D

It took me 1:33:15 this morning. I dawdled :p.

In fact, I was sightseeing in the fields past Addenbrookes and stopped to take a photo of a lovely scene, and had to negative split the second half of the run to not be late for work :(.

Last long run today, tapering now for Windermere in three weeks. Once again 22 miles, upping the pace for second half.

Anyone else interested in new Tom Tom cardio watch? Optical hr monitor built in. Tempting as the chest strap annoys me on my Garmin. Dc rainmaker has detailed review.

Just found out I have a place in the Paris Marathon 2015!! Running my first race every (Edinburgh 10k) on the 24th May, which I will be following with the Glasgow Half in October this year!

Managed 5.4 miles tonight, after 5k yesterday. I really enjoyed tonights run, I think it's because of the lower pace. I probably could have done 10k but thought I'd better not push it too far.

Running is ace.

My right foot hurts in the middle on the outside to walk on for some reason, although it's getting better as I use it. No more running until next Tuesday so plenty of time for it to heal. :)

My mate it wanting to do a half marathon late this year, how long do you guys think it'd take to train for that? Would I be better of waiting until next year and just sticking to 5/10k runs for now?

Most plans recommended tend to be 16 weeks long. Beginners, intermediate and advance available depending on your mileage and current fitness.

If the half marathon is more than 16 weeks away then I'd stick to your 5k/10k for now, do some speed work if possible and then start on your half marathon training with a good base of speed and maintaining your fitness.

Just been out for a small jog after not really exercising cardio wise for 2 years (!) I got tendinitis and just dropped out of cardio and exercise altogether really.

Going to try to run at least 3 x per week and see how the foot is.

What is your time for 5miles?

Personally I wouldn't say that a half marathon should require too much training. Unless you are massively unfit I think anyone should be able to do a half. I ran a half in 1.35 with literally 3 short practice runs. I would think anyone who runs regularly should be able to manage a time of around 2hrs fairly comfortably.

Nice, it's a great marathon that.

you've previously said it was awful and badly organised or some such when you 'ran' it a few years back in a claimed 3 hours something. Even though the official results had you down as well over 4 hours. Why don't you just give up this nonsense or link to some official results that back up your farcical claims??

Knocked a fair chunk off my 10k PB today, ran a 41:17 according to my 220 or 41:06 according to Nike plus. Either way it was over a minute less than my previous PB. Finding the HRM is helping me control my effort as I usually run too quickly early on. Split were all between 4:07-4:15 for the first 8k then managed a 4:00 and a 3:44 to finish.

Was aiming for under 42 minutes or thereabouts in the MCR 10k in a couple of weeks so on the right track.
