Ha, well this was the colour scheme of the Hokas, so garish colours aren't an issue!

I wore them around the house and they did feel a little restrictive. Based on that i think i'll return them and might take a put on those New Balance ones. I know their sizing generally work for me. Although their 1080's didn't last very long for me if i remember rightly.

Not many

Old Trail shoes - Saucony Peregrines 10
New Trail Shoes - New Balance Hierro V6

Cushioned Road Shoes - Asics Nova Blast
Firmer Road Shoes - Hoka Rincon 3 (that i may or may not keep)

I would probably like 3 pairs of road shoes to have in rotation. I generally have 1 pair and then switch to new ones instantly, but i don't know if that's a good idea going straight into ~10 mile runs in new trainers. So i like the idea of having 3 pairs in rotation so there's never any big changes which might cause injuries (and hell i have enough of those!). The other benefit is that i can pick up the odd pair in a sale like @dwarf posted above and stick them away until needed.

I also had those Under Armour ones i posted above, but they fell apart after 2 runs which eyelets tearing and some stitching coming undone. Note to self, stick to proper trainer brands!

I also need to buy a pair of "holiday" trainers for when we go away and i want something fairly muted. No chance i'm wearing those bright orange ones with jeans on a city break!
 
@dwarf Cheers me dear, love my rc elite but didn't want to wear them out, as I'm saving them for race day.
These among with my Clifton's will be ideal as my daily's.
Btw now I've had a couple runs with the rc elite, second time they really opened up. First time they felt a bit slow and squashy, but yesterday got a pb and was 10 seconds off my target of sub 30 minutes where there's a bridge I run through at 8km or so.

I really should back off, that's 7 trainers in as many months, but I'm a sucker for a bargain.

Haha it's tricky isn't it, not just buying trainers when you see them!

I went out in the Hokas yesterday. I can't quite make up my mind. To start with they felt great and incredibly light, i felt i was running faster in them (still slow) and they felt supportive for my ankles. However they started feeling a little tight towards the end. Not sure if that's just new trainers though and will loosen up, plus i've only really got them for shorter runs anyway so less of an issue. Might wait to see what those New Balance ones are like and then make a decision.


Just about to book flights for Spain. Looks like a return is only £47 which is nice and cheap. Trying to decide whether i could get away with just a rucksack and remove any need to pay for any cabin bags etc. The other option is to go all out and go extra leg room which takes it up to £90.
That still feels cheap and given my legs might be achey i think it's probably the better option!
 
I still haven't bought a pair of proper running trainers yet :rolleyes: Also it looks like I have missed out on the deal posted by dwarf as size 9 is the biggest size at the moment for that pair.

I'm trying to improve my cadence at the moment but it is really throwing my pace off, hopefully it'll just click but I was clearly overstriding before.
 
Yeah, they're a decent trainer for the money. I've had older versions and always been pretty happy with them.

@dwarf has also spoken highly of these previously. Not sure how they compare though (and you'd need to look elsewhere for your size) - Should be some discount codes knocking around too

I ordered a few winter running tops as i have a shelf full of stuff and thought i'd have a bit of a clearout as some is really old now and pretty ropey. Placed the order then started to go through stuff and realised i have way more than i realised. I could thin it out and i'd still have plenty without the new stuff!
 
@Bunko Try looking at puma, I have their deviate nitro, and now the liberate nitro and both can often be had for bargain prices.
I got my liberate nitro for £43.
 
To be fair they have only really started offering decent running shoes this last year or so. The most exciting thing is their low price tag relative to the competition. Hopefully it will drag prices down across the board but I suspect it will just lead to Puma/Reebok putting their prices up.
 
Yeah i imagine that's the way it would go. Undercut to start with to gain some market share, then once you are recognised as a decent product ramp the prices up.

It's actually crazy when you think about the prices of some brands. They don't even seem to have "budget" offerings. Mainly the more specialised running brands (Brooks/On/Saucony) it's rare to see anything under £100 unless an older model and it makes it hard to know where to be looking.

The floatrides are what I was originally looking at from last recommendation but struggled finding anywhere in stock so gave up. I will try again after Christmas see if stocks increase.

Thanks, I'll check those out too, much more my budget! Shoe shopping is certainly a bit of a minefield, for me anyway haha.

Got the NB today, got to say the quality of them doesn't seem as good as other trainers i've had with loose stitching etc so not sure quite how durable they're going to be!

Yeah haven't looked that close, but now you mention it my rc elite do seem to be more solid, but I'll keep a close eye on them.

But that colour yeesh, good job it's still winter.
 
Haha I hadn’t realised in the pictures that the colour is alternated on each shoe until I took them out the box!

If anything they’re a little tighter than the Hokas which puts a bit debate in my head. Might try them at the gym tomorrow to gauge whether they’ll be ok.
