Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

On the subject of goals before certain birthdays, and given the above trail run may/may not continue. I sometimes wonder about taking a few weeks off work and doing the Camino de Santiago in Spain and trying to cover 30-40 miles a day for 2 weeks. It has a junction near Valencia which will be near where i'll be based.

However, i've also just read about this in a book. https://www.andalucia.com/walking/senda-litoral-malaga.htm Effectively a 180km boardwalk along the coast running through the entire Costa Del Sol. I reckon that'd be amazing just running along with the sea by your side. Could be fully self supported too, as there'd be various places along the route for stocking up.
Only doing it over 1-2 days makes it handy for the wife too. She could drop me off, then head to the end point for a beach day :D

This heat is my worst enemy. I got nipple chafe last night from sweat and I barely sweat, and it was just a recovery run... 1hr 10 of steady state run tonight, I can't be bothered!
I've been getting the worst eye pain this year with sweat dripping into them. I've always had that problem to an extent, but it's got so much worse lately. I've started using eye baths to clean them out, but they're still sore for a couple of days after a long run.

Any tips for keeping sweat out of the eyes? I've tried hats, headbands etc and they don't seem to do the job.

Ah i was reading that first sentence thinking headband, but if that doesn't work then i'm not sure? Maybe some swimming goggles? :p

It's honestly getting that way!

That's got to be annoying. I find my eyes only sting if i have suncream on and it's that which drips down.

I wonder where it's coming from if a sweatband doesn't catch it?

Alternatively, my wife keeps sending me social media for this stuff. My head always sweats loads and it's awkward, especially when out socially. I'm tempted by it!

I'm not sure whether it's because the sweatband gets soaked through, or because I don't wear the band literally right above my eyes and therefore sweat beneath it. I'll try a few variations and see what happens!

I'm always a bit wary of rubbing antiperspirant on my face (especially if it doesn't work and drips), but it might be worth a try

A lot of people running distance wrap a buff or similar around their wrist to mop their brow. I've tried it and has worked well for me and it's a cheap thing to try. You can also use them for their intended purpose in the colder months too :D

Good shout, i sometimes use them as a headband in summer too. Although mainly a favour a cap since i'm bald.

One thing i actually need to buy (Actually need!) is a cap with a shorter rim. When i was on some steep rocky trails in Spain. Using a full length peak made it difficult to see ahead of me when going uphill as my head could be looking down and therefore the peak blocked the view ahead.

That looks marvellous.

as for sweaty brows, i would have to go with something that soaks/diverts to the sides. Buffs/Bandanas seem to be the most common things I see round here.

A cycling cap might do the job, a smaller brim and can be tilted up if necessary.

I find when running and sweating the worst thing is it getting in my ears and making my supposedly sweat-resistant wireless earbuds jiggle out of position. It’s a pain!
Would a headband help with that, or does sweat literally form in and around the ear?

I guess a headband over the ears would hold them and stop them jiggling full stop!

I used to use a beanie hat like that when i wore in ear earphones during winter and worked well, although sometimes it felt it applied too much pressure and pushed the earphones into my skull which wasn't comfortable.

Bone conducting headphones are now the way forward!

40 miles a day, wow. That would hurt. You'd need two weeks off to get your head back in order after that!

Yeah, the heat and humidity can foxtrot oscar for a bit. I've done a 7 day streak. Today's 50 mins with intervals was tough, happy for a rest day tomorrow then 3 hour effort on Sunday :o
