Anyone doing the Great North Run this year?
Me and some friends were talking about it today, could be a good way to actually get some motivation. But the entry fee kind of puts me off, i don't see why i should give £42 (which is quite a large portion of money i actually have for spending) to a private healthcare company for the privilege of running through a public place.
And why is http://therunningbarefoot.com/ down?
Depends how bad you think it is. If I hadn't run for that long I wouldn't go in and attempt that sort of distance. I'd probably start with 3-4k and take it really easy to check everything is in working order and then build my distance up as everything re-strengthens. In my case it's normally my knee or my left calf that is the weak point and it takes a few weeks to toughen them back up if I've been out of running for a few weeks. I'd take a week off and then do your 2 miles. Don't forget there are muscles in the bottom of your foot and you've probably strained something that wasn't ready for a long pounding.Went for a 4.5 mile run yesterday after not running properly in over 2 months. A bit foolish as after about 4 miles the arch of my left foot started to feel sore, i had plenty of energy left but didn't want to do any damage so headed home at the point.
Woke up today and the arch was very sore, about halfway through today it pretty much collapsed (spend most of my day on my feet with hard soled office shoes). How long have i got to avoid running for before it's worth having another crack? Was going to go out again on Thursday for a quick 2 miles to test it out as i have no clue how long it takes for the arch to strengthen up again. Surely its not serious enough to warrant a doctors visit or am i underplaying the issue?
Just turn up and run it, whos going to stop you?![]()

Would that... actually... work?![]()
What was the problem with your knee and what did they need to do?
