Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

I went to a running shop recently and they stuck me on a treadmill. Results didn't seem to bad. He mentioned something about the arch but said it wasn't actually that bad a thing (???), as well as my ankle bending in slightly.

He sold me a pair of Nike Zoom Structure+ 15 BRTH shoes. Bright orange which is a bit.....but they're comfortable albeit quite bouncy.

Not cheap though, set me back £80, but I reckon it's a sound investment.

did he not tell you if you were neutral or under/over pronator, he really should have cos then you know what shoes you need

Anyone got any idea as to why I keep getting a stitch when I run, usually around the 6 mile mark?

I tend to run for about 8-10 miles on my sessions, which is usually twice a week. I ensure I keep my fluid levels up whilst running, but not excessively.

I don't understand why this has started after 5 months of running

Try starting your breathing (inhale and exhale action) when landing on your left foot. You can continue the breath onto your right foot but start the action on your left.

Anyone a fan of the Parkrun events? Just done my first one and thought it was great. Waiting for the times to get uploaded now and the pictures. Definatly will get myself over to the one next weekend as well.

(The riddlesdown/whyteleafe one).

It would probably be better just to have a thread with the Endomondo/Runkeeper etc username links so people can add them to their account if they want.

I use Endomondo to track runs and bike rides.

Not much of a runner at the moment, normally just do a 2.5 mile loop. Doing a 10k run in September though so need to get the distances up.

Yep! I think Johnny does the as well.

I did 15 at the Bramhall one but have recently moved for work so will be starting the Coventry one soon I think :) Slowly working towards the 50 t-shirt :P

First two runs in a few years occurred this week.

Monday - 4.9km in 26.40

Just a moment ago - 5.4km in 28.08 (5km time was 25.49)

I have no idea where I should be, but I'm relatively healthy. Just not as active as I could be.

I need to sort out pre-run diet too, today all I had was a bowl of cereal.

Previous run I ate two yorkie cookies about an hour before I ran. Not ideal!

Current bests.
1 km
4m:11s

1 mile
7m:28s

3 miles
24m:52s

5 km
25m:49s

These are mine...

1km - 4m 26s
1mile - 7m 19s
3miles - 25m 49s
5k - 28m 37s

I think the 5k time is different because my run this morning (which was my fastest 3m time) ended before I reached 5k. Might do the same route again and just run a bit further past the house before coming home.

Right have set up a team on Endomondo.

Can someone please try joining. Its a private team so not sure how that works :)

Just clicked on it (and I'm logged in on my Endomondo account) and I received this:

I'm going for a sub 25min 5km run tonight. Close to 20mins would be nice!

Getting from 25min 5K to near 20min is not that easy.... You are looking for a 7min/mile from an 8:20min/mile pace....

A change in your diet pre-run is not going to have any real impact over 5KM IMHO....
