Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

I'd be happy with a 25m 5k. I should get there then I need to concentrate on longer distances. Have a 10k run on the 23rd December and havent ran 10k for a few years.

Well I shaved some time off!

As for diet not having an impact, my previous runs were after not eating much at all during the day. Today I ate fairly well and felt better for it.

Running again tomorrow, but taking it easy.

I will get close to 20mins :D I'm determined.

Yeah, I'll make sure I eat plenty (and well) a while before in the future. I'm guessing I'll probably hit a wall with my times soon.

I'm going to push hard next time for 4min/km. It'll probably end in me being sick, but it'll be worth it.

Hey guys, hoping to up my running to a more consistent routine in the next week or so and was just wondering what your opinions were on gait analysis and the like.

I had mine done quickly today in Meadow Hall (just standing, not running) and the chap suggested I had some over-pronation of my feet, mainly my right foot. I do have some hip pains after running, more prominently in my right side to the rear of the hip joint, so I suppose it could be the cause? The chap said the insoles to help it would be £45 or so which seemed a little pricey.

I'm thinking of going to Up and Running and trying out their running analysis and just wanted to know if you guys reckoned it's worth doing and spending £70-90 on the running shoes they recommend to help for my particular feet. Cheers!

Apparently its well worth it but I've never done it.

Did my first park run this morning (5k) in 26:22 so I have a long way to go

Tried going for a low 20's 5k, a little sick at 1.3 miles. Was fairly hot too which didn't help.

Finished the run though, took about 26 minutes.

You should make a thread for the OCUK 5km Challenge Dave. It'll get buried soon enough and I'd imagine this kind of thing would be good to do on a monthly basis?

May as well just leaving it running for this year? I can change the time on it easy enough if you think its worth having a monthly challenge? Perhaps next month do fastest mile or something instead?

Ha when I did my half marathon I had only done one 10k training run the week before. Might explain why it took me so long!

50 ish mile cycle for me tomorrow morning.

Be interesting to see the elevation change people are doing on these challenges. I live in a pretty hilly place myself (5K can see 320ft of climb) :(

8 Mile run today... The elevation on this will be fun :o
