Play from Xbox 360 HARD DRIVE - New feature

Its a good update, well done MS. Makes the the choice a lot easier to go 360 with all these neat little options/updates springing up.

The Elite model needs to go down in price now though and then I will be happy.

With the new dashboard etc being mandatory, we could see a lot of HDD space being used. I doubt 20gig HDDs will be able to have even one game installed when you take into account cache etc.

Only feature I want to know about is private chat. It says 8 player chat at dashboard but what happens when you join a game? Will that remain private or just join everyone to game looby. I could like a 4 player private chat or something for when there are annoying gamers :P

The new dashboard will be quite small for it to work with Xbox arcade users, I think there is 20mb cashed memory built into the xbox for dashboard? Its something like that so the dashboard won't use any more than you use now. 3gb or is it 6gb? is already taken on your hard drive by xboxs cache so you won't be losing any space by these new features.

This has to be the most significant update ever. Really can't wait! The install to harddrive feature is gonna be great! Faster loading times, saves wear and tear on the DVD drive, and best of all saves me getting up to put a different game in :D.

Now they just need to chop down the price of the 120GB hard drive which at the moment is riducously priced for a 2.5" drive.

You still need the 360 game disc in to play the games.

Correct. The update won't take up any space. Your profile might be a little bigger because of Avatar data.

The only thing will take up space is copying games to the hdd. People keep saying MS need to lower the prices of the hdds. But why? You don't HAVE to copy them to hdd and the benefit is not really much. It's just to shut the people up who have uber sensitive hearing.

Really?! Nooo.. **** :(.. I thought that was the whole idea of the feature, to have your games on the harddrive ready to play at your command. My excitement has gone.

Well otherwise you'd be able to just rent a game and copy it :p

doh Steve and your ninja edit

lol wasn't aimed at you mate in the first place :)

Well i'm abit dissappointed now that you need to have the game in the drive. Its useful I suppose but blah! Memories of my old modded xbox come to mind, had visions of that and how games could run from the drive from a libarary style menu.

MS you tease.

Well think about it logically, how on earth would they stop people sharing discs if that was the case?

True but I would have thought they could have over come that somehow by some kind of encrypted checksum made up of various serial numbers of hardware (cpu serial or something) inside the specific 360 that was used to copy the game.

Ah im dreaming aren't I :D

And talking crap :p

MS have done well here, although I do find it a little hypocritical that the 360 fanboys (I'm not accusing anyone on here btw) are giving it the whole 'in your face Sony' about the HDD installation, when previously they've gone to great lengths pointing out how uncouth it is to have to install a game before playing it.

Rather a large difference between an optional install and a required one, but I see your point :).
