PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS - Thread

Why is this game called 'player unknown'? Is it an Indie game or does it have a big budget behind it. Not sure why it's so popular.
It's the guys pseudonym who made a battle royal mod for another game that became quite popular. Iirc they hired him as an advisor.

Pretty big budget now after all those sales. Minus the hookers and coke that is.

Edit: not their first major game. First fps though.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, my first after 121 hours. The 1080TI and new G-Sync screen has made the world of difference! (placebo or not!)

Just got a 2nd place in solo....garrrrrr!!!! I knew EXACTLY where the last guy was. Just the final circle favoured him perfectly. I threw a smoke grenade his way but messed up the final kill. Gutted. #2, 4 kills.

haha when you slaughter all and fail at the end :p

Well the fact its sold millions of copy's and the company has been reported to have made well over 100 Million ! tells you this GAME has a great future.

I think you need to play it to understand why it's so popular.

It's a very simplistic game at its core. Land/loot/kill/survive. Which makes it easy for anyone to get into therefore rather accessible and as a result, popular.

And it creates excitement to a level that I didn't think was possible in a computer game.

In the market for a new game, mulling over this, Minecraft or CS:GO

Saw talk that the devs are money chasing by going down the pay to win route with drop packages or something in a recent/upcoming update? (I dont know too much about the game)
And also the online play is getting ruined a bit by people cranking their graphics settings way down for an advantage?

Would love it if anyone could shed some light who's been playing lately

The fact the OcUK discord is full of people playing this every night of the week tells you this ain't going anywhere!

Simply put - £26, I've put 300 hours into this and still love it just as much as the first time I played it. Not touched CS:GO in 6 months now.

GFX issues were only right at the start - that's been sorted for months now.

As above - I've honestly not played a game that gets me so excited/nervous in years - I'm 41 years old as well!! Sad but still a fantastic game that will only keep getting better with new maps/weapons etc.

BUY IT NOW!!

Not quite correct on a level headed thought process.

This game had a crate system in it all along, what was contained in these crates were simply clothing items.

It was announced that they would eventually in the full game add a crate system that required keys to be bought to unlock crates (there has been no mention AFAIK) that this will be the only method to obtain cosmetic items going forward when the game leaves early access and they are looking at how this will work going forwards. Currently when you play you earn Battle Points to buy crates, and these crates increase with each one you buy, the cost to buy crates resets every Monday.

They then announced three new types of crates (Gamescom crate {this requires the purchase of a £2.50 key to open}[this system was implemented to test the key system they want to add to the game, and also pay in part for the Gamescom invitational tournament they are holding], a survivor crate and a wanderer crate). After the 27th the Gamescom crate will no longer be available to buy and the they will revert to the free to open system for the other two crates which are once again earned through paying for Battle Points.

At this stage we don't know any more, but I'll give them a pass as this is early access and the system has to be at least tested, and that is what we signed up for.

With rgeards your other point about graphics it is true most streamers play on low settings for the edge but they were quick to fix the issue of draw distance and foliage way back after release. Now you don't really get much of an advantage playing on low in my experience.

the grass renders upto about 1 square which is about 100m.so dont go prone in grass corn unless it is the very end of the game.regardless of settings you use.

they are taking a leaf out of csgo and it seems to be working.why not ? cs is one of the most popular games and pubg is now over taking it for the amount of people playing it daily.who would have thought that ? :p

just remember this game has " just come out " hes spent years modding the basic same principle across a few big games and mods.its just come right at the right time.the only other game that was ever as good as this was dayz the mod.nothing else in the same kind of genre.dayz was massive on here many of us played that together and this is the same.so isnt much of a surprise many like it.especially with dayz sa failing.
