Playing a guitar upside down

I think the guitarist who plays with Roger Waters in that live DVD played left handed with an upside down guitar, remember seeing the solo in "Dogs" and wondered how he was playing it as it looked strange. I think his name is Snowy something?

The guitarist in Doctor Riley's Remedy (traditional Irish band that played at my dad's wedding) did this. :D

With regard to Hendrix, I'm pretty sure he learnt to play on a right handed guitar in the left handed position. It was at one gig in the village where Chas Chandler saw him for the first time, he got given a Strat which was especially restrung for him in the lefty position.. Not 100% sure on that though since reading a book.

I've seen that a few times. The guy from Doves plays his bass guitar like that and there was a classic band called 'Kerbdog' from the 90's whose singer/guitarist played like that too.

No, that's the guy I mentioned earlier Doyle Bramhall II. He's really good and has some great albums out. He plays guitar with Roger Waters and currently Eric Clapton.
Snowy is the other guy playing the Les Paul.

Oh right, my bad. 1 in 2 chance and I got it wrong :D

Think most of us lefties can do it to a fashion, due to left handed guitars not being readily available.

I've played in a few concerts with a right handed bass upside down but guitar is a pita upside down. Simple songs are about as far as i go on the 6 string upside down. And up the right way as well I spose :p

Oh and isn't Toni Iommi <sp> from black sabbath left handed ???

I'm left handed and play right handed guitar, as does my ex girlfriend I think. Not sure if I'd have a chance playing a left handed guitar. :p

Yesterday I bought a DVD by Michael Angelo Batio called Hands Without Shadows. Whats different about this DVD is that he's playing with backing tracks, standing in front of two marshall stacks and the cameras are always focused on him playing. The guy is quite funny also.
He plays a twin necked guitar that are opposite to each other and one is strung for a right handed player and the other is strung for a left handed player.
This bugger can play equally as good with either hand at the same time - phenomenal.
I know many have mentioned him before on here but this is my first taster of him.

Personally I dislike this blokes playing greatly. What I love about guitar playing, acoustic finger picking especially, is the fact you have right hand technique and left hand technique. My quam with this fellow is that he's only developed one technique on both hands. If you compare that to someone like Tommy Emmanuel that has distinct left hand technique and distinct right hand technique, I'd always been so so much more amazed by Tommy.

I just think that it's not that impressive as it is just the same thing on both hands. Which is weird as that's why people like him.

That michaelangelo <sp> dude is very impressive although not very nice to listen to. that weird hand thing he does when he plays normal then from above the neck really fast is strange.... cyborg maybe :P

it doesnt actually do anything, he's basically just waving his hand around to look impressive when if you actually listen it doesnt do anything lol. he's a tool.

Me and my mate have been watching some of the DVD tonight and we've been in hysterics laughing at him. He's a really funny bloke and is all 3 members of Spinal Tap rolled into one. I expected an italian accent but he's at the opposite end of the scale.
