Playing music and neighbours

We are compromising - By not playing it at antisocial times like 2am.

I dont have £1000 of sound equipment so I can listen to headphones and not have any bass

So if its not 11pm - 7am they cannot do anything?

Personally I have never complained of music levels, even when someone had techno on until 8am when I had to be up for an exam a few years ago

I'd put youself in your neighbours shoes, and see how you feel then.

If he was playing loud music at 2am I'd agree, but I don't think it unreasonable to be playing music at 6pm on a saturday and have a few people over, aslong as its not earth shaking bass and audiable 2 streets away. I do think inflicting dubstep on your neighbours is a bit rough mind :P but thats another matter entirely.

How would you feel if they played music you didn't like (particularly droning bass) whilst you were trying to relax, sleep or do something relatively quiet that requires concentration or relaxation?

Would it be such an issue to turn your stereo down a little?

Not suggesting anyone is right or wrong, just imagine if the shoe were on the other foot.

To be fair, it doesn't sound like the OP was aware of the problem until much later. Perhaps he and his friends would have turned down the music, if asked. Otherwise how is he meant to know it's an issue for his neighbours?

Am I the only person who enjoys music without bass? I find the bass to be a very unimportant part of any track and am always confused why people try to emphasise it above things like the vocals or more melodious instruments. There's a car which parks over the road most nights with its bass up so high that our house windows doors and such all rattle, it really baffles me where the enjoyment is :/

If the guy likes listening to dubstep then who are some of you to tell him otherwise?

Bass travels. You can't here the mids and highs that he/she can in their car.

Why do people think playing loud music is some sort of human right? Have some basic consideration for human beings who just maybe, actually don't want to listen to your music. In other words, if you want to play loud music, live in a detached house away from your neighbours.

One of my neighbours decided to fit new double glazing over the weekend which also included him knocking the small "wall" between the 2 single windows away as he was replacing each of the 8 small side by side windows with 4 larger windows (if that makes sense).

Cue banging, sawing and other assorted noise at 8am Sat and 8am Sunday. I don't have an issue with him making noise to replace windows as it is going to happen but anyone caught doing building works before 9am on a weekend (especially Sunday) should be shot TBQFH.

He was done by 12pm so how could he not have started an hour later and be more considerate!!

Back to the OP - Perhaps you could (as has been mentioned) ask your neighbours if you can pop round with your music on to see what it is they are complaining about. It may be louder than you think from their end. Equally so, you may find out that it is not and they are just moaning gits. Also, do it vice-versa so they can see that your music is not being played loudly. Don't cheat though, have your music set to the volume you normally have it at.

You can feel bass. Clubs like Amnesia are incredible where the bass is loud but good quality. You can actually feel it in your lower gut

I dint think people actually listened to dubstep i thought it was just for advertising campaigns and youtube videos :/

OP: Be considerate for your neighbours! It does not matter than it is 'only' 7pm.
Loud music is not appropriate in flats full stop - No matter what time of day!
Imagine after a long day at work, you come in, get some food and sit down, put the tele on......for it to be drowned out by some moron playing chav tunes.

What's with all the dubstep hate in here? It's a very marmite genre, and like all music there is some utter tripe around, but some of the posts in here are far more closed minded and "chavvy" than the music you're trying to **** off. I realise it's "cool" to hate dubstep, but frankly it's just childish.

With regards the playing of music annoying the neighbours, unfortunately this is a no win situation. If they work stupid hours and sleep at unusual times of day then it's unfair of you to keep them awake with your music. Conversely, its unreasonable of them to expect you to be deathly quiet and never ever have friends over or play music or watch tv (particularly early on a friday/saturday night) and they should have taken this into consideration when choosing their jobs/accommodation.

Haters gonna hate, even if it seems to be a neighbours in the case... ;)

Totally agree. It's the same with lawnmowers at 7am during summer months when your bedroom windows are open. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
