Does any body do this?

Now the hardware is more capable i am tempted to upgrade my home tv and maybe try 4k gaming, though with my pc sacrifices may have to be made in terms of frame rate and maybe graphics settings

Is playing at 4k worth maybe having to lock at 30frames?

Is my system in sig even capable? I imagine older games have the potential to achieve 60fps at 4k but something like the witcher 3, what should i expect to see?

Thanks in advance, im happy to play with a controller as i do for most games other than fps ofc

Ah yes i wouldnt touch overwatch or any fps with a controller!

Hmm not sure, i mean if im getting a tv anyway i guess it would make sense to future proof and get a 4k one, and can atleast try it out i suppose

I've now played a lot of games very happily at 4K with my 1070. Witcher 3 and Ubisoft games like Far Cry and Assassin's Creed required a mix of medium and high settings to feel smooth, but almost every other game has run at 60fps with most settings on max.

Wow thats promising! Is it literally plug and play via hdmi or does it require somw tweeking? I remember using my pc before via tv i had to change some settings to get it to fit the screen properly etc

Would you say the loss of say visual fidelity by turning settings down to medium for example is made up for by the resolution?

Hard to say what im asking lol is it worth the sacrifice of fidelity i guess

Drop setting to meduim and high turn off anti aliasing (not needed at all at 4K never mind sitting a few feet back from the TV!) and enjoy! I'm jealous because this is exactly what I want to do! But with Christmas coming I just have to have to make do at 1080p and a 290 for now.

Out of interest, what peripherals are you going to use to game from the sofa? May I recommend the Razer Turret, the smaller mouse than I'm used to took awhile to get used to but now there no going back!
The Roccat Sova is also worth a mention, don't bother with the Corsair lapdog though it's rubbish

Thanks, however any sofa style games i will use a 360 pad as its fully supported and is easier :D

But may still need a mouse to navigate the desktop!

Also yea shant be buying out right, whats got me interested is i realised my sofa suite and last tv finance agreements both ended last month, and i feel less of a man without atleast 1 finance agreement running.. :D

Bought a 4K TV a few months ago, nothing special. I did try Overwatch in 4K but the tearing bothered me after using a GSync screen for the last few years

Seems we are getting mixed opinions then, gokd thing this is what i was after. Tbh never experianced gsync so may be less of an issue for me maybe?

I have been using my tv for a few months now (mainly for the space needed for VR, which i use dvi) hdmi into 4k AV receiver, then to the samsung curved 4k tv. 1080p looks huge, especially on desktop! The real difference when switching to 4k for me is the colours. A big improvement..
I use my phone with unified remote for casual browsing or films then the roccat sova for gaming.
Not noticed any tearing, can still get 60fps and upwards depending on games and settings. Above all i get the 5.1 from my AV receiver too!
Using a 1070 and i7, any questions or tests then o am more than happy to help out.

Appreciate it thanks! Ordered mine last night 55ks7000 samsung, due to arrive tday

What type of hdmi cable should i be getting?

Also my pc is fairly close to tv, so can i have both hooked up at the same time? How does that work, i say i use the pc to choose and launch the game and then have it display on the tv for the game? Does this use up more resourses etc

That lapboard thing looks awesome.. potential xmas gift idea for myself :D

Quick question about 4k etc. A friend is invested in the console space and getting the ps4 pro and barking on about native 4k etc and i was trying to explain that on pc you just set the resolution to what you like and its native to whatever resolution the screen can take

Is that right or are the pc games not true "native" 4k? Think the term has confused me as i just assume setting the res to 4k gives you a true 4k image so making it native, dunno i was struggling to explain my thoughts about it

Pc games are native at whatever you choose to set the resolution at this is true 1.1 pixel resolution

the ps4 pro cheats with upscaling because it is still way less powerful than a 1070 and dosent have the power to move that many pixels on premium games

Cool this is pretty much what i was trying to explain however hes very against anything that isnt a ps4 so wasnt having it :D

I think it is hdmi 2.0 upwards? I cant remember the exact i plumbed in at the time. Hdr would need something i reckon, my display caves in if i try to use that. Plugging in as second display should be fine since you can set different resolutions to each one. I remember trying that once and games opening on the wrong screen, i had to physically drag and drop the game window onto my preferred screen then it was fine.
I can't really find any negatives, text and resolutions and displays can all be adjusted nowadays to suit.
Only hassle is fetching the cable for the sova or headset for vr out of the other room( pc is in next room in cabinet and cables passed through wall to tv) but if you are having a lengthy session then its worth it!

Really tempted by that lap board! Looks really good and something i have always wanted to be made :D

Any idea how 4k tvs hadle upscaling say if i kept my pc at 1440p?

Set tv up last night but didnt get round to trying the pc on it, ordered a 6m high speed 2.0 hdmi to arrive tday, starting to think thats not long enough still but will move things around a bit if needs be

Keep us updated, like I said this is also my eventual goal, if your not happy with playing things on medium you could always drop the in game res to 1440p and your 1070p will still max pretty much everything out at 60fps, at the distance your sitting at at anti aliasing isn't really needed on any res, even at 1080p fitting 4ft away I can't tell when it's off or at 8x

This is how i play on pc atm via monitor 1440p pretty much maxed so will see how the tv hadles that res vs 4k and weigh it all up! Probably approach in on a game to game basis, older games are runnink 4k (albeit via dsr) maxed out

Plugged it in last night and got it working. Is there a hot key to switch from display 1 to 2 and back?

One issue i had was its refresh rate was at 30hz until i changed it in nvidia panel, but had to do this again the next time i used it too?

Sound seemed to work without needing to tweek

i selected native which for me is 3840x2160, if it is not holding at 60hz try 59hz then apply. thats what mine is at. when i ran two displays i used extended desktop then dragged from one side to the other. that way it can use separate resolutions.
thumbs up for getting it setup!

Thanks! Im not really sure what end result i want but pretty much happy to have it display completely on 1 and switch back to the monitor maybe with a macro of some sort?

I did try extended but couldnt get the game to drag over there! Lol

Just tried witcher 3 and wow! Soo sharp. Wondering if i should up the settings and lock it at 30fps? Currently sits around 45 with a mixture of medium to high at 4k. May finally be time to play the addons!

2d/indie stuff and older games run flawless at 4k 60 pretty much! Dishonored 1 and alan wake age especially well at this resolution

Personally, i would have 45fps rather than 30fps anytime. Another can of worms is going to a lower resolution and trying DSR, then there are FOV and other settings. It goes on and on...but it is about what is best for tou really. Like some say, running 4k at 60fps is not easy for the latest titles. I changed bf1 to 1080 and it ran no different to 4k, oh well!

Yea true! I may just pop it back to 1440p on newer games and see how well they upscale!

If you're buying a 4K TV now for whatever reason - especially for PC gaming - make sure you get one with a native 120hz panel not 60hz.

Be careful because many brands say the TV is 100/120hz but they don't say this is only through false image processing. Look for true 120hz panels, they may claim silly things like 240hz but again this is through image processing. It's the base native 120hz you're looking for.

This will help - http://4k.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-4k-tv-refresh-rates-in-one-post-15371-2/#

I have a tv now not sure what hz it is pretty sure its 60hz though

May i ask why you would suggest the above?

*not sure what mine is 55ks7000 samsung, cant seem to find what hz it is

Thanks^^

Got a wireless 360 pad on the way to make things easier

One problem i had last night, playing at 4k its fine but if i set the game to 1440p it locks at 30fps across the board

Any ideas? Because i can max games at 60fps 1440p i wanted to see if the tv scaled it well enough to play
