Playstation 3 uses 7800GTX ?

Iam just posting this up about PS3 core manufacturing by IBM, high failure rate unfortunately but maybe tempered by the fact it has 8 cores to fail and the bad cpus' can be put to other uses.

PS3 requires 7/8 cores to work, the price/performance will not vary according to how many work apparently but if during its life the tally should fall to 6 or less the console will fail to work :/

My comments on racing games are this is my fav type of game, I wont argue about which is best exactly but I do prefer a realistic game.

My favs -

PGR3
GT4
GP4
Nascar
Ferrari challenge 355 DC
Stuntcarracer
Supercars2 :D

I brought a PS2 just to play GT4 and I wasnt disappointed at all. It was never about the graphics imo. They have done good work behind the scenes compared to previous versions and I might just get a ps3 just to play gt5 as silly as that is.

Which game has an accurate model of a RX7 FD? The cars I liked best in GT4 which had a ton of oversteer were, dodge viper, s2000, lancia delta with full lsd and the 300zx for laughs

i love a good fanboy fight.

Oh and a ps3 uses a 7800gtx - wow who knew?

And how long do you thing it'll be before people claim advantages because they have somehow figured out that their ps3 has 8 cores instead of 7?

The ps3 only uses 7 spes anyway people will eventually realise that, most likely Ibm will be reserving the 8 spe ones for military use anyway and giving sony the ones with 7 functional spes. Though Sony may have better yields than Ibm so there may be a few 8 spe ones in the ps3, who knows?

Sony has their own fabrication plant so 8 cores may actually be seen in machines but I doubt it'll be any advantage except greater reliability/redundancy prehaps.

I dont remember any other cpu being so colourfull before

Yeah I suppose Sony will definatley be using their 8 spe cpus for the ps3 to reduce failure rates.

Atm they are still using 90nm iirc so when they start with 65nm they should get better yields.

Its a shame to see Sony so obsessed with having the most powerful console that all their parts are failing, prices increasing and more delays happening.
