PlayStation VR / VR2

I had a play of skyrim VR this afternoon at my friends. It's really good fun and works way better in VR them I'd have thought. The only issue I have is that the graphics seem kind of blurred at times. Not sure if this is down to the low resolution of the ps headset or lack of aliasing due to the PS4 hardware not being up to the job?

Tempted to pick one up given the low £250 price but I think I'm gonna hold out for one of the newer windows VR headsets as I don't want one that's limited to just running PS4 games.

I was reading a great article from the creators of gran turismo. The issue with PSVR is both with the headset itself and the consoles power. They were saying it needs to be 4k per eye, high framerate and much higher fov. Now I don't know if technology would be there within the next 10 years (they seem to think so), but the next ten years is going to be pretty fun.

PSVR is great, but like you say the graphics are a bit iffy. That said, the rogue one demo is just brilliant.

Is this worth buying for a 10 year old? My daughter keeps asking for one but I feel that there isn't enough games out for it, that she'd actually enjoy.

Its the console that's the weak point for the headset, someone on reddit hacked together something so they could use the PSVR in Steam VR and they said the clarity was very good when super sampling was turned on.

You basically have half the processing power as the console is having to render 2 different viewpoints for each eye.

That's pretty much my exact take on PSVR. The technology is amazing and has the potential to quite literally revolutionise the way games are played. It adds a level of immersion I've never experienced.

Unfortunately this is tempered by a headset which to me seems too low resolution and also has a poor field of view. Tracking with a external camera is far from ideal as it frequently loses the positioning requiring recalibration. Plus if they could somehow invent a wireless standard capable of sending the video to a battery powered untethered headset that would make a big difference. I'd also like to see controllers better than the repurposed PS move ones we're lumbered with just now. That and if anything we need a PlayStation 5 generation jump in the console tech to power larger more immersive games running at 4k plus resolutions.

I don't want to sound too negative as for the price it's amazing what Sony have managed to do with PSVR. I've tried the HTC vive on a top end PC and given it costs 3-4 times Sony's offering the experience isn't really much better.

As you say I think it's just that the technology isn't quite there yet and we need to wait a few more years to get around the issues with current headsets before VR becomes truly mainstream. If you want to be an early adopter of VR Sony's offering is IMO still the best way out there I've tried (especially for the ease of setup and the price) but there's still issues with it. Plus it doesn't help that most of the games feel like shallow tech demos being sold at full retail prices.

Anyone tried Recroom vr? Looks quite fun and it’s free.

It’s like that social game they had on ps3 but with a more cartoony look and loads of games.

Why is that?

It's thought that as children's eyesight is still developing at that point, there is a possibility that staring at a close screen could cause nearsightedness. There's some evidence showing a rise in pre-teen nearsightedness that lines up with phone/computer use by pre-teens. There's no definite though, VR manufacturers are probably just being cautious to avoid lawsuits down the line.

might get the package deal from game, is the vr worth it? im unsure how much use i'll get out of it but i kinda really want one

Edit : I've reserved one

100% worth it imo especially with games like farpoint, RE7 and Star Trek. The game list keeps getting better every month so your buying at the right time.

Get yourself some move controllers and the aim controller as the games that use them make the experience so much better.

Are these a bit of a bind to set up?
i just ordered this and some shorter cables, i'll let you know if it worked when it's delivered

it doesn't seem too difficult to set up, just need 2 hdmi ports on the tv or just 1 hdmi port if you get 2 switches

1 switch using 2 tv hdmi ports

2 switches using 1 tv hdmi port

and when you want to switch between hdr and psvr, shut down the ps4 and press the button/s on the switch/es and turn ps4 back on again

i read the total cable length must be under 5m, the shorter the better.

i just hope it works, it's been annoying swapping cables about

Thank you Rich
