hi guys back for some needed help i bought a i5 2500k asus p8h67-m le mobo and 4gb kingston hyper x ram bundle kit but i have read somewhere that the h67 chip mobos cant be overclocked is this true i just wanted to get this at 4.4ghz

I am afraid that it is true - see extract below from a review of your board

Much like the situation with the outgoing i3/i5/i7 family, you will need to purchase a "H" series motherboard for Integrated Graphics support. Sadly a few of you might be left with a bit of a predicament. To be precise, the H67 chipset does not support processor overclocking at all. Yes, even if you purchase a "K" series processor with a H67 motherboard you are out of luck

Could you return the board under DSR ? Change to a P67 /Z68/Z77 board?

BTW welcome to the forums:)

Don't just bin the board, stick it on ebay or gumtree. At least you'll get something back for it.

YOUR BASKET
1 x ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £104.99
Total : £114.89 (includes shipping : £8.25).

I would hope that you can get a more than decent clocking board and retain use of your ram - I assume it's the 1600mhz type?

I recently upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and at the same time upped board and ram but retained my cpu - a i2700K.

In upgrading a few problems occurred e.g managed to break one (secondhand but still cost £80) motherboard (got a bit impaitent), fitted a faulty cpu cooler (sealed watercooling unit which sounded like a bag of nails) etc
and in the end decided to go with an Asus Sabertooth Z77 board.

Expensive but easy to set up and overclock with - am currently running @ 4.3 with max volts less than 1.3 and do expect to get to at least 4.5 without having to increase voltages at all or by a miniscule amount.

I do not feel comfortable recommending the board simply because of the cost and from what I've read there are other boards which are as good but cost a fair bit less BUT I would not hesitate to buy again.:D

stobbsie - You NEED to remove your link to Ama..... - No links to competitors are allowed in any circumstances !!!!

There are loads of boards out there - take your time in choosing.:)

It is supposed to be fun :D

If you want to be sure your ram works with a particular board 'happily' , check here - someone may have the exact combo you wish to put in place - and /or check motherboard/memory makers web sites . ( You do get mis-matches occasionally - often for no real accountable reason)

BTW I have nothing against the Asrock board - the make has a good rep.

aged idiot just googled that board and found it http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-512-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat= if so it looks like it has a plastic cover over the board ,,dou you remove this ???? may be a dumb question just never seen anything like it ,other than that looks great

IM SOLD GETTING THIS BOARD THANKS AGEDIDIOT

The way it looked and the 5 yr warranty are what sold it to me :) (Sad in so many ways - and I'm not talking about the 5 yr warranty)

It looks a bit intimidating but if you do a google there are a few videos out there unboxing and setting up. I found one done by Asus very useful.

There is a thread on here about the board :-

The plastic cover is their thermal armor, they use a small fan to push air around it to keep things cool

There are 2 such fans - both of which are classed , by me anyway, as noisy little b...
But per some reviews it is very debatable if either/both are needed.

Did find a way of calming things down so now have both running :) ; although for the 2/3 weeks I ran without one - no problem at all!

You can replace them with quieter fans 40mm IIRC.
