Op, you need to realise if you are removing the cooler for any reason on most gpu's, it will void the warranty. Now I understand your frustration, but ultimately the responsibilty is 100% yours to do your research, ensure you have ordered and received the correct part, and that you are able to dissassemble and then reassemble without damaging any components.
Some manufacturers allow the removal of the cooler, some have special relationships with retailers (Powercolor allow removal if bought via ocuk), but most will void the warranty.
It is a risk we have to take modifying gpu's unfortunately. There is no point coming on here crying and blaming overclockers. You remove screws with "warranty void" stickers on them at your own risk!
