Guys - I've seen tons of signatures which go over the limits of 400x75 by 20KB.

If you're going to use a signature with achievements of your xbox live / PSN then that's fine, but please make certain that it conforms to the rules. I'm not saying this to be a pain, but gently reminding everyone that it's a difficult thing to go through everyones profile and let them know manually they're (I'm sure with the best of intentions) breaking the rules.

I've copied and pasted the info from the FAQ here too:

"You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) in your posts. You can specify in your profile a signature to use at the bottom of your posts. When you post, there is an option to use your signature. A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels. If you want to turn the signature off in the future, you can come back and edit your post. If you have specified a signature in your profile, the box will be automatically ticked for you."

Is directly from the FAQ.

*EDIT*

If someone knows of a website signature for both the 360 and PS3 please write it here, so I can update it in my Original Rant :p

Smallest PS3 one I know of that is below the limit:

Can be had if you register on http://www.ps3trophies.com/trophycards/

Don't know of any small compact combo PS3/Xbox ones though :(

So all we need is a 360 one.

EDIT - 360 one - http://www.trueachievements.com/

The smallest I've found and one that I use on another forum is this:

Abooie.jpg

But it's 22947 bytes and 430 x 62 so just above the size limit for here and why I don't use it.

Now, afaik these limits have remained the same since I started coming here 7 years ago; isn't it time for a modest increase?

Even though I spend a lot of time here and really enjoy reading the forums, I must say that the majority are very rarely listened to here. Remember when we had a vote for an optional black theme in the user cp? If I remember rightly the vote was in favour of having that option available, yet nothing was done about it. We've had this overly strict rule on signatures for a long time now and I don't see that changing in the future.

Nobody is asking for ridiculously large sigs with huge filesizes, but surely common sense could prevail and we could be allowed to use the above sig. A vast amount of the posters who enjoy the console games section play on the 360 and previously used the My Gamercard site before it was taken down, the sig above wouldn't be spoiling the enjoyment of other users, it's only 30 pixels longer than regulation, and only 3k bigger in filesize, hardly going to break the Internet is it.

I'm fully expecting the usual response of "if you don't like the rules don't post here" but that hardly solves the problem does it.

I personally don't see any problems with the sig size at the moment. I hate forums where people have massive retarded distracting images in their sig. However I think that the xbox live thing shown should be allowed.

Rules are fine, it's always kept the forums nice and tidy which is one of the best points about OcUK compared to other places.

Can't say I care much for the 360/PS3 gamerscore style sigs anyway, you get too many of them and they make it hard to pick out users as they are all so similar.

I do like the 400x75 limit on sizes, but I've seen slappings being handed out for being a few kb over the 20kb limit. Big deal...

The only reason your seeing 'tons' of signatures breaking the rules is because of the major site for them shutting down unexpectedly with no suitable replacement.

As it stands I'm so unfussy by my lack of signature I've elected not to do anything about it. I do think the limits are a little mean especially considering the signatures are hosted by the user and not OcUK. Quite a few signature creation sites have sizes that are just too big for this forum (480x100!) which means we can't use them - it just seems a little restrictive.

That said I do appreciate that there are some limits on the size of the damn things as at times I have seen many a forum where the signature of 1 poster is often 20x the content of their actual post....

/random words go here

i used to have a sig like that but never bothered with it so got my current one thanks for the info though

Welcome to ocuk where the internet is still the same as 2001

Haha. :D

From my point of view I'd say the reason signature sizes are limited to 400x75 is to keep the forum looking nice and neat. I don't really have a problem with it to be honest. It annoys me on other forums when users have animated avatars and sigs that fill half a page.

ban those silly achievement sigs. they are quite sad.

simples

PS for those that think we all have +10mb broadband, you are wrong. I can barely get half of the 8mb i pay for!! i live in Surrey about half an hour from London, not exactly the end of the world.

Still, broadband and a few KB isn't going to break your internets.
