PLex Server - reposting here

Guys

I just built a Plex server from old parts.

Now of course I need to rip my DVD collection to it....

Was going to use Handbrake, good option? Alternatives?

I wanted the process to be automated, so put the DVD in the drive and it does what it needs to do.

Can I do this? If so how?

I used MakeMKV as I wanted full rips, not sure if you're after that or not. But there's nothing automated that I know of.

How many do you have to do? With mine I just did a few every evening soon got through them all.

You'll still have to put the DVDs in the drive though.

Bluecube - how wrong you are I have a son for that.......

Andy - over 200 is my sons guess.....

Its ok he is doing then so I will leave him too it.....just wondered if anyone had written a script.

Check out My movies for windows, just done the very same, it will image the DVD but alos make an MP4 copy too (they use handbrake too) . Just delete the full rip if you don't want it.

This is fully auto mated put in a disk, it rip's it then queues the conversion spits out the disk then you add the next one. It uses SQL too as a databse.

I personally use the following, not an automated process, but I can effectively batch encode:

AnyDVD HD - "fixes" any encryption issues, allows me to create an ISO of the disk on my computer.

VidCoder - nice GUI front end and uses Handbrake as it's encoding engine. Allows you to add multiple encodes into a queue and can then leave overnight working away. I also choose to hard encode any subs that are required for non-english parts, saves messing about with subs on my different players.

MakeMKV - to extract TrueHD/Dolby Atmos audio (as Handbrake doesn't do pass-through on these) and I want to keep the full HD audio tracks.

MKVToolNix- mainly for muxing with mkvmerge when I need to add TrueHD/Dolby Atmos audio back in.

Filebot - for naming.

yaDIS - for scraping

...and as I have a Mede8er, I use yaDIS2mede8er for generating the xml files.

I have ripped a substantial bluray collection like this - it's taken a while mind you.

Have you had a look at VSO's ConvertXtoVideo Ultimate? There's a demo version you can download to try.

You shouldn't have to buy software to achieve this, Handbrake/Vidcoder/MakeMKV will do the job fine and they are free.

Personally I use Vidcoder over handbrake as the UI is cleaner and it offers volume amplification which Handbrake doesn't (unless its really hidden somewhere)
