I've not seen bit-loading stats come back from a web interface before, what model modem/router are you using?
Many thanks for the help guys
The router is a ZyXel P-660HW-T1_v2 with standard firmware I guess ( V3.40(AXL.1) | 11/21/2007 )
- The sync rates look reasonable. Not great given your line attenuation, but okay.
- There doesn't appear to be anything untoward with the IP Profile.
- The download throughput result didn't get up towards the IP Profile value, however, it wasn't awful.
- This could be down to a few things such as how 'busy' the BTw or ISP networks are or, more generally, the time of day you performed that test.
- It certainly suggests there is ample 'speed' over your internet connection.
Yes it does seem odd to me aswell, the speed test seems to show everything is OK but it definitely isn't!
Had you just said web pages were loading slowly then I'd ask which DNS servers you have configured on your PC and modem/router. If you weren't already, I would have suggested you try one of the well-known public services such as OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220) or Google DNS (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4).
Will give that a go and will post back with results
You've mentioned poor pings, albeit in a gaming scenario on the Xbox 360. If this thread progresses and it starts to look like an Xbox / Live problem then I'm out. We might be able to use ping to do a bit of diagnosis on your line, though.
Can you confirm whether the PC and Xbox use wired or wireless connectivity?
2 computers are wired, so is the Xbox, I have a laptop which is wireless + Iphone.
All are acting the same, Iphone won't preview songs etc on Itunes or App Store. Xbox won't connect to Live and all PC's have the same problem.
Can you paste,
- Ping statistics summary (not the whole thing, thanks) for: ping -n 50 bbc.co.uk
- Traceroute to see if anything is screwy: tracert bbc.co.uk
Consider setting up an account for thinkbroadband's
Quality Monitor which might help to check for congestion on your connection or something on your network surreptitiously consuming bandwidth.
Wouldn't work with bbc.co.uk 'Ping request could not find host'
So for google.co.uk
Ping statistics for 66.102.13.147:
Packets: Sent = 50, Received = 49, Lost = 1 (2% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 37ms, Maximum = 239ms, Average = 55ms
The tracert wouldn't work for bbc.co.uk either
So google.co.uk - This took a good 3-4 minutes to complete
Tracing route to google.co.uk [74.125.77.147]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 2 ms 1 ms 2 ms 192.168.1.1
2 47 ms 120 ms 40 ms lo0-plusnet.pcl-ag01.plus.net [195.166.128.27]

What type of account do you have with PlusNet, Value, Extra or Pro? Can you confirm that you have not gone over your monthly allowance? Check your broadband usage in their
Member Centre because they throttle
very heavily if you're on the fixed cost option and you go over.
I have an old Plus.net Account, I think its called a Premier 1 account? I am on the Tier 1 usage, but this hasnt effected what it was like before, to be honest I don't even know how I've gone over my limit? This problem has been ongoing now for probably a month. My new month is 6th so we will see if it makes any difference tomorrow, but I'm 90% sure it won't
Once again thanks for your help
