Plus Net Traffic Management - Arrrrgh!!

How does one find out if one is on "Traffic Management"..??

If your with plusnet they will inform you via your email account and you will notice your speeds are going 25% of what they shhould be.

Hmmm, i did 93Gb in the period Nov-Dec.
So if i'd done another 8Gb i would have received the "dreaded" email, i s'pose.

:(

Thats my main gripe here. They didn't warn me I was getting near, inform me they had placed me on traffic management, or provide any usage at the time to allow me to check or confirm this. They now have put another usage chart in place. I want to know why I was "punished" in this way.

I am currently in the process of migrating away from plusnet, I had gone over there 15gig peak usage, i didn't get any warnings that there was going to be a change in peak usage. I was paying £22 a month but am back to paying £30 a month, you really do pay for a quality service. I personally think that this is totally unacceptable from a company to change a policy not inform a user and then restrict the user.

Well when I asked them about them putting a system in place, and punishing me without warning or notification - and how can they punish people without having a system in place to monitor our traffic management. They replied...

We have been working hard to provide such a system for customers. This system is now available on our View My Broadband Usage tool.
That said, it has always been the customers responsability to monitor the usage of their own account and systems.

Except the whole point of BB+ that they pushed in their sales blurb was that the end uesr didn't have to manage the service.

YAY, im now on level 2 management. 30kbs down and 10kbs up, ROCK ON!

11, das until the caps reset, lets see how far into managemet i can get by using the net normally :p

Totally agree.

The thing is, I tried to manage the service, as far as checking my download usage (you never know if the bloke next door found your wireless network and has been downloading DVDs for a week)

It's got beyond a joke now.
I have to watch certain traffic types between 8am and midnight.
I have to watch downloads between 4pm and midnight.
I have to watch total downloads every month.

I am allowed to download 100 gig, I rarely go over 10 gig.. so I am hardly one of those customers they are trying to get rid of, yet they have done this which is just pushing me out of the door.

Same thing with Stelios, hardly a heavy user, yet he's off as well.

Just what type of cutomer do Plus net want ???

I joined PN at roughly the same time as Stellios iirc (can't remember when but it was at the start of 2005). They were awesome for the first 3 months or so then tumbled downhill at a colossal rate when the traffic management came into play. Even worse they put a couple of thousand people on it by mistake including yours truly.

It's just awful, I'm the most patient guy in the world but every time I turn around they've got some new lame policy and tbh I cba to read the new account changes because I just get lost and confused and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Nothing even works half the time. DNS problems, slow ftp use, slow cgi use it just never ends. I'm only with them because of their pricing, and the fact that I'm downloading less since getting my 360.

If I get stuck on traffic management I'll blow my lid because I'm not using as much bandwidth as I used to, but it doesn't seem to matter with this isp.

Im looking for an ISP mate as well..I was going to join plusnet but then i read the usage poilcy and thought what a load of bull. I don't know who to join, the best ones cost an arm and a leg!

Well, well, well what do i receive in my inbox today......

Your peak-time P2P, FTP and Usenet usage has exceeded the third level of
the Broadband Premier usage policy. To find out more about the published
usage limits please go to
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/network/traffic_management.shtml

Level 3 management has been applied to your service during peak hours for
P2P, FTP and Usenet. All other protocols are not affected by this change to
your service.

Your Broadband service will continue to be managed until your next billing
date at which time peak-time usage management will be removed. If your peak
usage continues to increase further peak-time management levels may be
applied to your service.

Please reduce your usage and schedule large downloads outside the hours of
8am to midnight.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Kind Regards,
PlusNet Customer Support

I'm not quite sure what "Level 3 Management" is but it sounds painful.
:(
I never received any forewarning btw.

We jumped out of there, been on them since Sep 04, back when they were AWSUM to the max, but then they managed to get overburdened with users and decided to screw with everyone. We were put on traffic management by accident, and it was the last straw. In the end we moved to bulldog (pah :D ) but its been a lot better than PlusNet have.

No. Its perfectly simple. (ahem)

As a broadband Premier user you can...
Download anything between midnight and 8am
Download 20 gig of usenet traffic per month between 8am and midnight
Download 100 gig per month
Download 30 gig per month between 4pm and midnight.

That clear now ?

Heh

Thats the easiest way to understand it, even then you have different levels of throttled speeds. All applications fall into this system from platinum right through to bronze. Then you hit different levels of throttling if you go over those limits.

Now im fairly good with computers and computer literate but to the every day punter, that is just going to say WTF in there face.

I'm on the PN plus £14.99 service and it's been fine up until a couple of weeks ago, now pro evo 5 is carp. Is that this traffic shaping whotsit kicking in then ?
