Plus Net Traffic Management - Arrrrgh!!

Now im fairly good with computers and computer literate but to the every day punter, that is just going to say WTF in there face.

Totally agree. I work in IT, and find their T&Cs unnecessarily complicated.

Would your every day punter even know that the E Donkey they have switched on permanently is P2P traffic ?

I'm on the PN plus £14.99 service and it's been fine up until a couple of weeks ago, now pro evo 5 is carp. Is that this traffic shaping whotsit kicking in then ?

Quite possibly. Check your PlusNet usage.
The thing is, even if you go over over your Sustainable Usage (100 gig a month OR 30 Gig Peak times) your supposed to get enough bandwidth for gaming.
If your hit with Traffic management it just cripples any FTP, NNTP or P2P traffic and again, games are unaffected - but everyone I know who have been hit with it says game Ping times go all over the place....and all online games are unplayable.
They ticked the "I won't do it again box" and once they return to normal traffic - games worked fine again.

I don't download large files, just use it for gaming guess it's probably something else with mine.

Well go to Plus Nets web site, log into the Members Centre, and select "connection settings" from the left hand side menu. Your usage chart is in there.

You could also run a speed test from the ADSL Guide website here

No. Its perfectly simple. (ahem)

As a broadband Premier user you can...
Download anything between midnight and 8am
Download 20 gig of usenet traffic per month between 8am and midnight
Download 100 gig per month
Download 30 gig per month between 4pm and midnight.

That clear now ?

Heh

Ahh got yer. :)

In fact. I would go as far as to say remembering all that is just as easy as it was when I signed up to Plus Net.

"download whatever you like, whenever you like"

Time to find a good ISP again.

Just what type of cutomer do Plus net want ???

the type who pay the same/more than everyone else and use less bandwidth and dont demand as good performance. The type every company wants, but are not thick enough to beleive they can survive with that type of customer and that type alone

I've just been hit by the email now stating that I'm on Lv1 management on my 2mb Premiere line.

I'm totally confused because I've downloaded sod all for Dec-Jan because I had my 360 to play with. All I've downloaded was content through xbox marketplace, played PGR3 and er browsed on the PC.

Sustainable usage 2mb:
100GB usage (anytime)
OR
30GB peak-time usage

Yet my usage on the plusnet webby shows:
8am to 4pm usage this month:
16.62GB

4pm to midnight usage this month:
11.98GB

Total usage this month:
50.41GB

Me confused as this billing period should have been my lightest month yet in terms of net usage.

Because Plusnet keep changing their conditions of use, I've just lost track about how traffic is managed. Now I see that 2mb users get 20mb of 'clean use' and then are hit by traffic management? If that's correct, that is utterly stupid. So when 2mb users get upgraded to 8mb later in the year, we're even more screwed since we'll hit that limit even quicker unless they change the usage limits.

I'm in the process of Migrating to F2S, have you got any links that support your statement that they have traffic shaping in place?

Pdog

Also www.adslguide.org check the F2S forum. I have just migrated out to Zen. Since the Pipex (yes I said Pipex) takeover, something has happened to F2S, the performance is shocking.

for those saying there getting a e-mail about you then being applyed on management it could be that you've done 3 months last year at 100GB peak+off peak and only now they're starting to working through peoples accounts? as i cant see how they'd apply a level to say Phantom_Masters measly 7GB throughout one month.

Very probably, iirc they did that with the Sustainable usage, told people it was going to happen, didn't implement for 3 months, and then nailed people who went over it during those 3 months.
They are such a customer based ISP. LOL.

Our student house has almost certainly gone over the limits for the last few months. We're on the sister ISP, Force9.

Got the email yesterday saying we're on Level 1 Management. So I replied back for my MAC key.

I'm thinking of going to Freedom-2-surf. Despite the plethora of negative comments about their service at the moment, I know someone who uses it who says it's fine. It's got to be better than Plusnet, anyway. I don't think I can quite justify the £34.99 Zen charge just yet...

Can you guys give some examples of the type of stuff you download that results in ISP's managing your accounts? I'm obviously way underusing my internet connection!!!!

give multiplay.co.uk a go, they'r in beta stages of ADSL but have been for months, sumwhere on forums theres the link for it, free migration, no 12month min term, 2mb = £24.99 , no traffic management etc, no bandwidth cap

*yet* springs to mind. its gonna happen to most if not all of them, the best option atm for those needing to download a lot is to fork out. you cant expect to get everything for cheap or free these days.

This man speaks sense! There's no such thing as a free lunch.

im also on plusnet, i've had bad connectivity for the last 5 months or so .. but i am on a yearly contract and i have 5 months left, im currently trying to find some way to get out of my contract and get rid of this isp as gaming for me has been impossible since the middle of december last year .. it wasnt so bad before that i was getting bad download speeds and constant dns issues. The day i can get moved over to pipex will be a happy one !

This is daft. I just got an email from plusnet stating I'm on Level 2 traffic management!? Just days after I got the first one yet I've downloaded hardly anything!
