Plus-sized traveler demands free seats

I started running in 1999 at the age of 41 and quickly moved to half marathons and full marathons.
Around 10 years later I had blood tests and was found to be diabetic, I'd ran a marathon that weekend and my GP said I need to do something about it.
I said "How the hell can I be diabetic, I'm one of the fittest blokes you will come across?" so he asked what I ate.
Of course I ate a lot of high carbs for my fuel and he said "That's why you've got diabetes" :(

About 10 years ago I started to have a knee problem and by 2014 I couldn't run any more because I had completely damaged my right knee with running, last year I had a full knee replacement.

The moral of this story is to do small runs and don't eat a lot of carbs.
Now as an out of control diabetic who has got to go to another appointment because my Hb1Ac is 66, I'm looking at injections.
marathons are hardcore. not surprised about your knees but sucks royally about the diabetes . you are right.. things in moderation are best.

however if i was successful of living like that in general then the weight would not be an issue either!.

hope you get your levels sorted and a regime which works for you, diabetes is a horrible illness.

As someone trying to lose 1 stone and i am making progress albeit slowly, this just came up on my youtube feed, I have not watched it and i hope its a clickbait title.

Seem like clickbait. Perhaps he's talking about across large samples in the same way you could say that dieting is not effective for weight loss (as many people put the weight back on, ditto to anything for weight loss) or "masks don't work" as you can't see the evidence across a large population. But in reality, if you stick to a diet and are able to ditch the old bad habits then dieting can easily be effective, likewise if you as an individual wanted to wear a well-fitted mask during the pandemic you're going to lower your risk fo catching covid, they don't magically stop working outside of ICU.

Part of the issue with running or cardio, in general, is that say 20-30mins of light cardio 3 * a week doesn't actually do much in terms of burning calories, each of those sessions (in terms of calories burned) can be undone by a snack. But if you're going from very sedentary to cardio 3 * a week + making sure you're getting your average daily steps up (perhaps you do < 5000 in a day and you gradually increase that to > 10,000) then that can definitely play into a deficit, you could be losing an additional 300 calories say from the increase in general activity alone.

For people who seriously get into running or walking then it can have a much bigger impact, you simply don't see fat runners (or at least not serious ones) as they're not just doing a light jog for 20 - 30 mins 3 times a week rather they're bashing out a load of kms each week and might do a half marathon on a weekend.

I know its really boring but 4x a week for lunch i have cannelini beans with cucumber/spring onions/ feta and for dinner i have turkey mince with kidney beans. No simple carbs and i'm definitely feeling better on this diet.
It's good to have the consistency/habit. I definitely find that when I eat well, I crave less junk food.

The great part about exercise is that you earn back some calories, and generally feel a bit healthier having exerted yourself (even if it's just a walk).

I don't blame her for being fat, some people genuinely can't help it because of psychological conditions.

I do blame her for expecting to fly having only bought a single seat (she should have bought two), i.e. being inconsiderate of the people sat next to her.

I'm lucky in that I never crave carbs, I crave fat and protein, so I eat a lot of meat and always avoid processed food. A natural desire for a low carb/high fat/high protein diet means I can maintain healthy-ish weight and cholesterol without too much exercise. I swim and play squash most weeks. I'm happy-ish with my physique but I'd like to improve my cardiovascular fitness, I find that hard.

This is a stupid thing to say but I haven't seen any adverse effects, I haven't had any warnings at all and continue as normal.
The only thing that has happened is because my HbA1c was over 58 and my knee operation cancelled three times.

Back to the original post:
The wife just reminded me when we went on a flight around 10 years ago a bloke had booked two seats but they hadn't given him two seats together :)
It took a couple of minutes for somebody to swap around.

I assume you mean simple carbs as opposed to complex carbs?

I do.

If I can drag my clinically depressed arse out of bed every morning to go to the gym to A: Stay healthy and B: For my own mental health, then they can.

but no, that requires effort and self control. Its far easier to move the goal posts and expect the world to adapt to your own failings. This is basic **** people, keep yourself fit so other people don't have to look after you.

The levels of calorific intake required to get to that size and maintain it is shocking, its sheer greed and laziness, nothing else. (in most cases)

Please tell me it is?

Guy with moobs gives health, diet, fitness advice. If your not willing to practice what you preach then your not going to be able to give trust to an audience.

He's probably right though, I haven't listened. A proper diet, lifting heavy **** is better. But keeping active, running, cycling/whatever isn't going to cause the average man any issues.

did you quote the wrong person? i deliberately try not to go down the route of commenting on "good foods" vs "bad foods"..... i dont know enough about it to be honest other than...... in general if I like it, it is invariably unhealthy, and if i dont like it, its probably ok to eat plenty of it ;)

PS its killing me in the office, someone bought in a few left over easter eggs .... apparently they dont like white chocolate.

....you dont get to my size by being a chocolate racist... i will eat all of it ;)

If you want to lose weight quickly, fasted cardio in the morning is about the most efficient way to do it. Add in some resistance training in the evening and the fat literally melts off you. The trick as always is a combination of both but people generally don't like cardio. Its hard work.

As I get older (very quickly approaching 50), cardio has become more difficult due to the impact on aging joints so I have slowly started to move over to a more resistance based regime but I would never ever completely abandon cardio, even if I am only capable of doing a brisk walk/jog. You need to get your heart pumping, its a muscle that benefits from being worked.

Failing that, just eat less calories. Energy Input < Energy Output = Weight Loss

But yeah, back to the original topic. Maybe I should be more sympathetic? I'm not convinced... I am THAT guy that stands in front of the mirror and fat shames himself into being motivated. If I have no problem calling myself a fat **** in the mirror then the lady quoted in the opening post has no chance of empathy from me.

I could totally be a chubster tbh. I love beers, crisps and biscuits but I just feel crap when I'm out of shape.

Walk 10k steps most days, kettlebell and yoga most days as well which seems to strike a good balance of strength and mobility for me. Not getting any younger so doing what I can to stay healthy.

i dont judge anyone for being over weight................ (only partly because i am overweight myself) most of us have a vice of some sort or another..... and the funny thing is, if i were an air steward i would probably on the quiet even try to throw a bone if i could to someone who through being super tall or over weight was obviously struggling, and there was a free seat somewhere with a little more room........................ (so long as they were not being obnoxious)

but that woman is deluded and playing the whole victim card and blaming the airline really cheeses me off. the thing is, i bet a lot of time she gets upgraded as well... squeaky wheel getting the oil and all.

Wrong, since 1988 I've been a daily suicide depressive, I have red alerts for it, had lots of sessions and been thrown into a Mental Hospital but I've done me and obviously never done anything although it has been very hard not to.
Other people haven't got my will power and sadly do it so you do you, I'll do me but don't try and judge other people with their problems please.
