Just wanted to get some opinions on this...

I currently have plusnet broadband with their 'pro add-on' offering no capped speeds and 'prioritised traffic'.
Today I went on their site to see what fibre optic services they were offering and I can't see why anyone would pay for it.
If you look on this link you can see how they cap everything on their different packages.
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/download_speeds.shtml

I receive 'up to 16mb' and their fibre optic is up to 38mb but if you compare the pro add-on speeds with extra fibre the only time you'd get a faster speed is between 12am and 8am, which for a lot of people is pretty pointless.

Why would anyone choose fibre optic over normal broadband from plusnet and pay more. It seems ridiculous.

People who don't know better. I imagine their costs are so high because they have to pay rental on BT's fibre optic lines, which are newly installed and will be pricey!

i dont know if im reading it wrong but the pro add on lets everything run at full speed all the time whilst the regular fibres have limits to everything other than browsing email and ftp

Exactly, I get a faster speed with adsl than they're offering with fibre. It defeats the point in having speeds of up to 38mb

Plusnet is budget based ISP it's a simple fact, if your going to spend peanuts on a service then the service will be restricted at times.
After all Plusnet are owned by BT and using BT kit is more costly to operate a service on than LLU.
A few fibre based companies that offer good levels of speed are www.adsl24.co.uk or www.titan-adsl.co.uk

PlusNet Extra with Pro add-on = Up to 38Mb/s 24/7. 120GB peak allowance.

Ohh now i see it says "Plusnet Pro is an Add-On for broadband customers on Plusnet Value, Extra, Value Fibre or Extra Fibre" on that speeds page.

It doesn't show on their fibre optic packages page that you can have the pro add-on as well so assumed it wasn't an option.

Is there likely to be any difference in ping or latency from standard adsl? I get really good timings already anyway so probably not, as long as it doesn't get any worse that's fine.

Latency will probably be the same if the connection uses fastpath.

My pings improves by ~10ms or so when I made the transition to fibre.

This is what I get already.

Don't do as much downloading as I used to so doubt there's any need to upgrade yet.

How much does the Value Fibre (£16.95) increase by if you get the Pro Addon?

And can anyone confirm that the Pro is genuinely un-throttled? (I had ADSL through Plusnet a couple of years ago and their throttling was a joke!)
