justgot my asus p7p55d mobo
4gig ocz platinum 1333mhz ram
tuniq extreme cpu cooler

everytime i start the computer it says cpu fan error, and when i have cpu-z open the core speed of the processor goes from 1.2ghz to sometimes 2ghz then to 3.2ghz, is this normal or is it a indication my fan is not working?
plz help

Its possible that the fan speed is very low upon start up, i get this as well using 400-1200rpm pwm fans, have to hit F1 to continue booting. Once in windows though they run fine. The cpu speed jumping up and down will probably be due to intel speedstep, this is a power saving feature and is entirey normal.

So do you think I done it right?
I mean looking at the booklet I have the fan power connector in the 3-pin PWR_FAN socket, is this correct?
Because there is a cpu fan socket on the board but it has 4 pins but the power connector on the fan is only 3pins.
And windows is really slow think it has something to do with speedstep? If so I will disable it but only until I know 100% that the cpu cooler is defidently working, thanks man;)

The issue is that you dont have a fan connected to the cpu fan header, hence the system doesnt recognise a fan at startup, in the pwr fan header your cpu fan will run at full speed all the time, this will also apply if you connect the cooler fan to the cpu fan header (it will still fit even though cpu fan header is 4 pin).

Asus boards of late have done away with 3 pin fan speed control, to enable control of a fan on the cpu header, you require a 4 pin pwm fan, this shares the same type of connector as the stock intel fan. With pwm, fan speed adjusts up/down according to cpu temp.

You can transfer it to the cpu fan socket, this will do away with the "no cpu fan warning" at startup, it will still run at the same speed as it does in the pwr socket.

I know all about it mate, have to hit F1 on mine every time i turn it on, the warning can be disabled in bios but i keep forgetting to do so.:o

Just 1 more quick question, I want to OC the i5, I have disabled speedstep and now my core speeds are staying the same which is great, but in the bios it will not allow me to change the cpu multiplier ot bclk at all, I press enter on it and nothing happens?
I also can not overclock my ati 4870 no more in the ati overdrive menu, there must be something enabled stopping any overclocking, right?

Another weird thing is the ram I brought is suppoed to be 1333mhz but it says this...

i haven't clocked an I5 but have used a few ASUS boards !!

Make sure your bios tweaker/overclock settings are set to manual.
your RAM is running under speed at 1065.4 which will go up as you increase BLK.
i would keep your RAM conftably below max while O/C your chip.

I would raise your BLK by 10-20 and restart.
Check voltages (if left on auto) and temps...run 5 IBT if it passes repeat until it fails.

once you either find the max voltage or temp your happy with..or it fails, dial it back a couple of notches and run a proper soak test under full stress.

Now you can O/C your RAM, raise the frequency...i would probably try a notch over your rated. If this fails try your rated. if this fails under clock it but tighten up the timings a bit.

*sorry im ****ed

Alright I figured it out on my old asus mobo in bios i had to press enter then type numbers in but on this you type the numbers in then press enter:D
I have it oc'd to 3.2ghz so far and ram timings have gone to 7-7-7-18 and dram frequency has been reduced to 482mhz and cpu temps at high 50's is this ok on stock voltages?
Should I oc the i5 even more and then oc the ram?
am i correct in saying the dram frequency is the mhz speed of which 1 stick is of ram is running aat so 482 x 2 = 964mhz total speed?
Cause the ram i got should be 1333mhz so I guess i have to oc the ram to reach this speeds right?

and my tuniq tower 120 extreme does not even feel warm, that tx-3 paste it came with was so hard to put on, maybe i didn not apply the paste correctly?
if thats the case i may buy some arctic silver 5 because its much easier to spread where as the tx-3 is like plastisine.
